Manager, Communications
About The Role
This role combines corporate communications with ownership of brand and digital communications for China. It offers a high degree of autonomy, combining strategic advisory work, hands-on execution, and effective steering of external agencies.
As a communications manager in China, you will support establishing the new corporate brand in the China market and drive integrated communication activities to foster reputation and employee engagement. You will coordinate Brand and Digital Communications in China, ensuring strong alignment with global strategy while enabling effective local execution.
How You Will Do It
- Govern Brand and Digital Communications in China during the transition from BASF Coatings to the future standalone company.
- Govern the China digital channel landscape, including strategy, editorial planning, content creation and performance optimization across relevant local platforms.
- Translate global narratives and key messages into locally relevant, high-quality storytelling tailored to Chinese audiences, including the creation of engaging visual and written content.
- Drive communication activities such as executive messaging, media briefings, and presentations for key corporate or brand events.
- Actively surface and curate relevant stories from the China organization, transforming local initiatives and achievements into narratives suitable for global communication audiences.
- Support brand-related initiatives such as CSR communication and Employer Branding.
- Brief, manage, and steer external agencies and service providers across digital, social media, and creative topics.
What We Look For
- Master's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- Several years of experience in brand, corporate, or digital communications, ideally in a multinational or matrix organization.
- Proven ownership of digital communication platforms and social media channels within the China ecosystem.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, set priorities, and deliver end-to-end communication projects.
- Reliable experience managing agencies and external partners.
- Strong strategic thinking combined with a hands-on, pragmatic mindset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin.
- Excellent working knowledge of standard office and design tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Cloud (esp. Photoshop and InDesign), Xiumi, Canva and similar tools.
