Objectives of the Position

 

The Customs Data Manager supports & ensures Global consistency of Customs Data provided by Customs Authorities, 3rd party companies and BASF internal data sources. He/She manages and supervises the mapping and validation of the data and transfers them into the BASF Customs dashboards and other Data apps or applications. He/She is the key contact for all related request from the Corporate Centers and Operating divisions for key Customs and Duty figures, detailed analysis and deep dive consultancy on the duty impact, rates and new regulations. In addition, observation of political and economic changes and the translation of them into end-2-end Customer processes​ is expected. This incorporates the ability for deep dive data analytics and data presentation in standardized visual formats such as Customs Dashboard as well as the ownership of the Customs Data globally. He/She is also closely cooperating with Customs Duty Optimization role and interacts with Business units to optimize duty spend and focusing on reduction of duty liability.

 

Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities

 

Data Management

 

  • Owner of the Customs Dashboards, ensuring Authorization concepts
  • Owner of the Tariff simulation App and manages development
  • Increase transparency on new laws, regulations and customs agreements​ and build in the changes into the Dashboard & App
  • Initiates and defines regional binding GB Guidelines to ensure adherence to consistent Customs data
  • Define, develop and monitor global Customs KPI and upload it into the GB Scorecard
  • Proactively engages Customs Communities of practices to ensure globally defined processes
  • Closely align activities with Process Design and AI Team to implement necessary changes in the process landscape
  • Deep dive into and analyses of BASF internal & external customs data and presentation in a visual standardized format in close collaboration with Supply Chain Excellence team
  • Provide Training to Customs Community
  • Deep dive into and analyses of BASF internal & external customs data
  • Interface with Supply Chain Excellence team on the dashboard data engineering

 

. Data Analysis & Reporting

 

  • Analyze customs data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare and present compliance reports and dashboards to regional and global leadership.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on business operations.

 

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

 

  • Collaborate with customs communities, business units and supply chain functions.
  • Act as the primary contact for customs communities, regional business units and supply chain on Customs Dashboard topics

 

Job Requirements

 

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Law, Supply Chain, Business Analytics or a related field.

 

Working Experience

 

  • 5+ years of experience in customs compliance, trade compliance, supply chain or customs operations, with regional or global exposure.
  • Strong understanding of customs regulations, broker management, and internal control systems.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

 

Technical & Professional Knowledge

 

  • Good Customs and Foreign Trade knowledge and regulations
  • Good Supply Chain Operations knowledge
  • Strong communication and argumentation skills
  • Strong analytics thinking
  • Strong teamwork competence
  • Structured work organization
  • Experience in project management is desirable
  • Good knowledge of the SAP master data systems and SAGP GTS
  • Proficiency in customs software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and Microsoft Office Suite.
