You will join the Visibility Team of BASF whose mission it is to build an AI and big data fueled observability solution to predict, avoid and analyze complex disturbances in BASF’s global infrastructure. The team provides and develops the platform that stakeholders such as infrastructure operations, application teams and other business partners can get the required insights from. Aim is to give BASF an end to end visibility solution for Application Performance Management (APM), Network Performance Monitoring (NPM) and IT Infrastructure Monitoring (ITIM).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Understand the needs of internal Business Partners and their use cases regarding observability.
  • Steering of managed services.
  • Own end-to-end accountability for the BASF observability landscape—from infrastructure design and tooling development through CI/CD deployment, operational monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Combine the strengths of observability tools in place, e.g.
    • Grafana.
    • Gigamon.
    • Traffic Broker.
    • Zabbix.
    • Cisco.
    • Thousand Eyes.
    • ELK.
  • Find additional ways to leverage the collected system data to generate value for BASF.
  • Leverage AI capabilities to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort in daily business 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good overview across enterprise IT landscape architectures.
    • Expertise in network infrastructure desirable.
  • Proactive mindset.
  • Cloud experience (AWS, Azure) highly beneficial.
  • Python/JavaScript/Shell scripting.
  • Experienced in using code repository (GitLab, Bitbucket).
  • Knowledge about CI/CD tools is also a plus.
  • Monitoring tools (not all mandatory, some background/understanding):
    • APM: Datadog, Dynatrace.
    • NPM: SolarWinds, NetScout.
    • ITM: Zabbix, Nagios, checkMK.
    • Log engines: ELK, Splunk.
    • Steering managed services experience.
  • Daily usage of AI tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot). Well understanding about AI concepts like:
    • LLM.
    • MCP Server.
    • Agent.
    • Skills.
  • Good ability to gain competence in new assignment areas quickly and independently covering new technologies, methods and skills is essential.
  • Extraordinary analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Out of the box thinking is desirable to understand and eliminate complexity and to find innovative solutions for complex problems.
  • Able to work as part of a globally spread, virtual team.
  • Strong will and ability to communicate within and outside the team is key.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree / University degree / University of applied Sciences degree (IT, Business IT) is required.
  • Professional English skills mandatory.
  • Minimum 5+ years job experience in security operations within mid & large-size enterprise environments.
  • Technical career preferably in information technologies, telecommunications technologies, process control technology, communication technologies.
  • Ability to work within small, creative teams as well as cross-functional teams.
