We are responsible for authentication technologies such as Smartcards, Windows Hello for Business and FIDO2, ensuring secure access for employees and administrators worldwide. As a core part of BASF's Cyber Security and Identity & Access Management landscape, we are driving the adoption of phishing-resistant and passwordless authentication technologies that strengthen security while improving user experience.
To strengthen our team in Madrid, we are looking for a Senior Cyber Security Engineer who combines technical expertise, hands-on engineering and architectural thinking to help shape the future of authentication at one of the world's leading chemical companies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of the Authentication Team, you will develop and operate secure, scalable authentication solutions used across BASF’s global IT landscape.
Our services enable secure and user-friendly access to business-critical applications, covering on-premise and cloud environments, and supporting modern authentication approaches such as MFA, Single Sign-On, and Zero Trust.
You will work in a high-impact engineering environment, contributing to core security services used by thousands of users worldwide.
- Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications
- Own and drive development of scalable APIs, microservices, and data-driven applications
- Build secure, high-quality code following secure-by-design and clean code principles
- Design and optimize systems for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for testing, deployment, and automation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack.
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, and global teams.
- Identify and automate manual, repetitive, or inefficient tasks within the team wherever possible, improving engineering productivity, quality, and speed.
- Implement practical AI use cases in the team’s day-to-day work, products, or development processes where they create real value.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Explore and apply new technologies and emerging trends, including AI-driven development approaches.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in software development
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or Blazor)
- Proficiency in backend development using .NET / C# or Java
- Solid knowledge of API design (REST)
- Experience with databases (PostgreSQL or comparable)
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD and Git
- Understanding of testing frameworks (unit, integration, E2E)
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes/ Helm for application deployment, configuration and operational support
Security & Architecture
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and OWASP principles
- Basic understanding of authentication methods and protocols: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML 2.0
- Exposure to scalable architectures (microservices, cloud-native systems)
