WELCOME TO BASF

We are a leading global research organization with over 3000 employees working in the field of material and analytical science, chemical synthesis, process development, bioscience, catalysis and digitalization. With our creative and diverse teams as well as our cutting-edge research, we help to make our customers more successful and drive the sustainability transformation.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

The “Coating & Film Processing” unit develops manufacturing processes and products for future-oriented technologies such as lithium-ion batteries, electrolysis, fuel cells and CO2 capture. A core element of our development work is the coating of functional materials. Based on laboratory experiments, formulations and process conditions are developed to maximize product performance and establish scalable manufacturing processes.

During a five- to six-month internship starting in February/March 2027, you have the opportunity to get to know BASF and make your first professional contacts. In addition, you can apply the expertise you have acquired to practical challenges. Your work will focus on the following topics:

  • You become part of a highly motivated team of experienced engineers and laboratory technicians.
  • In the development of new formulations, you support our laboratory team and apply various mixing and dispersion methods.
  • You plan and conduct coating trials using new materials.
  • Based on your observations during the experiments, you derive the next experimental steps. In doing so, you independently apply analytical methods such as rheology and microscopy, including image analysis.
  • To gain a deeper understanding of the experiments, you support our colleagues in the electrochemical characterization of the samples produced.
  • If required, you use in-house simulation tools or develop your own evaluation routines.
  • You present your results in team meetings and discuss them with colleagues from the relevant specialist departments.

WHAT YOU OFFER

  • currently enrolled in a degree program in process engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, polymer and colloid chemistry, or a comparable field, with a strong academic record
  • practical experience in conducting laboratory experiments
  • knowledge of heat and mass transfer, particle technology, formulation technology, or drying technology
  • good command of MS Office and, ideally, some prior knowledge of Python
  • good communication skills and a strong team spirit

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Practical phase - actively apply theory in challenging and varied tasks/projects
  • Teambuddy - contact person for all questions and regular feedback
  • Networks - get to know different perspectives, ways of thinking and fields of work
  • Internship compensation - a recognition of the commitment, more information you will find here
  • Flexible working hours - depending on the location and area of work
