We are looking for an Associate Field Biologist to join our Agricultural Solutions team for our BASF Technical Product Development business in Manitoba, Canada.

The Associate Field Biologist runs the field trials assigned to the local research farm, managing staff and resources required to execute the field program, supporting research farm operations and cross-portfolio research, and providing technical support to project planning, data management and regulatory submissions.

As a Associate Biologist, you create chemistry by...

• Understanding customer and market needs to support input into global/regional research targets, managing research farm targets, capabilities, equipment inventory and cooperating farmer relationships. 
• Interacting with Technical Managers, Marketing and Regulatory to support product development, technical regulatory strategy, and technical transfer to the Tech Development team to prepare for launch. 
• Supporting effective research partnerships with external parties to build a trusted network of technical relationships that supports the development of novel new products. 
• Supporting local research farm capabilities to achieve key Canadian technical and market targets, and collecting high-quality data to build confidence in Canadian projects internally and with regulators. 
• Supporting the recruiting and hiring of seasonal staff, and the technical training of seasonal research staff to build a strong team executing high-quality research results. 
• Providing management support for research farm and cross-portfolio/cross-crop research programs, including annual budgeting, 3-year capital and crop rotation planning, farm cooperator relationships and farm staffing. 
• Supporting project planning execution including protocol planning, data summaries and presentations, as well as research cooperator data management and preparation of regulatory submissions. 
• Being responsible for assigned Responsible Care (RC) components related to field trials, including chemical inventory, genetic resources, site-specific JSA/SOP development, and training of new interns/contractors on safe work practices. 

If you...

• Hold a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Agriculture/Biology, or equivalent experience in crop science, weed science, agronomy, entomology, plant pathology or a related discipline. 
• Bring a minimum of 1 year of related field experience managing field research trials (3+ years preferred, ideally across indications); experience with the Canadian regulatory environment and working with growers, distribution/retail, universities or consultants is beneficial. 
• Are able to share knowledge and expertise with others, actively participate on teams to solve problems, and bring strong organizational, time management and project management skills. 
• Have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to develop and deliver presentations to varied audiences, with proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word and ARM/SPEAD. 
• Have well-developed influencer relationships that foster research partnerships and training curriculum development. 
• Experience with farm equipment or mechanical aptitude is beneficial, along with comfort in a field/research farm environment requiring physical outdoor labor, respirator use and equipment operation. 
• Are able to travel up to 20%.
