Objective of the Position:
As Head of APAC & India Local Tax Specialist, you will lead the regional local tax function across APAC, with a strong focus on India and China. You will provide strategic tax leadership, ensure robust governance and compliance, manage tax risks and controversy matters, and help shape a fit-for-purpose standalone tax function as part of the carve-out of the Agricultural Solutions business.
This role is critical in enabling business decisions through high-quality tax advice, strengthening regional tax processes, and ensuring effective collaboration with tax authorities, external advisors, shared services, and senior internal stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead the Local APAC tax function, with a particular focus on India and China, and coordinate regional tax priorities across APAC.
- Take direct responsibility for tax teams in India and China, providing leadership, coaching, and development to build a high-performing regional tax organization.
- Shape and strengthen the standalone APAC tax function as part of the carve-out of the Agricultural Solutions business.
- Provide strategic tax advice to senior management to support business decisions, transactions, governance requirements, and operational priorities.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with tax authorities, external advisors, shared services, and internal stakeholders.
- Steer tax governance and oversee locally executed compliance activities in India and China, ensuring high-quality sign-off packages for the Head of Tax.
- Instruct, coordinate, and review work performed by shared services and external advisors to ensure accurate filings, consistent processes, and aligned interpretation of tax positions.
- Manage audits, notices, assessments, and tax controversy matters across APAC, ensuring strong technical leadership and transparent risk communication.
- Drive continuous improvement of end-to-end tax processes, controls, documentation, and operating models across the region.
- Contribute an international perspective to strengthen APAC’s regional tax operating model and support readiness for future organizational requirements.
Job Requirements:
- Chartered Accountant with at least 15 years’ experience in taxation in ideally in multinational organizations and/or leading advisory firms
- Proven experience in leading local and regional tax teams and managing complex stakeholder environments. A hands-on experience in managing overseas tax will be preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of direct and indirect tax regulations across APAC, with deep expertise in India tax requirements.
- Experience in cross-border tax processes, tax governance frameworks, compliance management, audits, and controversy management.
- Ability to translate complex tax topics into clear business advice for senior stakeholders.
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage with senior leaders, authorities, and external advisors.
- Intercultural competence and the ability to work effectively across countries, functions, and organizational levels.
- Excellent English language skills; additional APAC language skills are advantageous.
- Experience in the chemicals or agricultural industry, as well as exposure to carve-out, transformation, or IPO-readiness projects, is beneficial.
- Familiarity with SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
