Memphis, TN

We are looking for a STI Trait Introgression Manager to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Memphis, TN.

In this role, you will translate Seeds & Traits pipeline demand into integrated trait-introgression and seed-delivery strategies across crops and project phases. You will lead complex, cross-functional projects with limited oversight, align technical requirements with greenhouse, laboratory and field capacity, and ensure the genetic integrity, quality and timely delivery of fit-for-purpose seed and research materials.

As a STI Trait Introgression Manager, you create chemistry by...

  • Translating assigned Seeds & Traits pipeline demand into integrated trait-introgression, seed-increase and nursery-execution strategies by defining project objectives, trait combinations, recipient backgrounds, generation plans, crossing and selection schemes, quality criteria, regulatory dependencies and delivery requirements.
  • Leading cross-functional execution for assigned Bio numbers and projects by partnering with Project Leaders, Trait Development, Breeding, Trait Research, PMO, Regulatory, Crop Analytics, Crop Genetics, Biometrics, Seed Science Operations, Seed Logistics and other stakeholders, and representing STI in project and governance discussions when delegated.
  • Planning greenhouse, growth-chamber, field and counter-season capacity by developing space-allocation scenarios, sequencing work across sites, aligning labor and consumables, forecasting project costs, identifying bottlenecks and recommending execution trade-offs within approved priorities and resources.
  • Defining molecular-testing strategies and demand for trait detection, zygosity, identity, purity, recurrent-parent recovery, marker-assisted selection and quality control, while coordinating sample volumes, timing, plate demand, data handoffs and selection decisions with laboratory partners.
  • Ensuring technical quality, genetic integrity and fit-for-purpose seed delivery by applying risk-based judgment to population size, generation strategy, donor-fragment reduction, recurrent-parent recovery, seed increases and recovery plans against agreed genetic, phenotypic, purity, quality, quantity and timing criteria.
  • Monitoring project plans, pedigrees, milestones, inventory, assumptions, costs, risks and decisions in approved systems; escalating material deviations; leading recovery planning; and providing concise status updates and recommendations to STI leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Improving trait-introgression planning and execution through standardization, lessons learned, scenario analysis, digital tools, automation and new technologies, while coaching technical professionals and promoting consistent global ways of working.

If you...

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, Crop Science, Molecular Biology or a related field with at least six years of relevant experience; a master’s degree with at least eight years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Bring progressive experience in trait introgression, plant breeding, genetics, crop science, seed production, molecular biology or related R&D programs, preferably involving soybean, cotton, corn or canola.
  • Translate pipeline requirements into generation strategies, population plans, crossing and selection schemes, molecular-testing demand, seed-quality and quantity targets, timelines and operational-resource requirements.
  • Lead large, complex and cross-functional projects through influence, with accountability for milestones, technical decisions, risks, costs and stakeholder communication across controlled environments, laboratories, field or counter-season locations and seed-logistics workflows.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of plant genetics, backcrossing, recurrent-parent recovery, linkage-drag management, marker-assisted backcrossing, trait detection, population design, seed increase and generation advancement across native, GM, genome-edited, induced-mutagenesis and stacked-trait programs.
  • Ensure genetic purity, traceability, chain of custody, data integrity, QMS, Biosafety, Stewardship, regulatory compliance and audit-ready documentation throughout trait-introgression and seed-production activities.
  • Utilize project, pedigree, inventory, planning and data-management systems to improve visibility through dashboards, standardized workflows and data-driven decisions, while coaching technical teams and driving consensus across global, multi-crop and multi-region programs.
