WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

In our unit Agricultural Products Environmental Fate, you will support the identification and characterization of transformation products and unknown compounds that may form during drinking water treatment processes. By employing state-of-the-art high-resolution mass spectrometry and structure-elucidating methods, you will contribute significantly to the scientific evaluation of treatment technologies and their impact on water quality.

 

  • You work in the field of assessing and investigating transformation processes in drinking water treatment.
  • Furthermore, you focus on analyzing and interpreting complex analytical datasets from high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) to identify transformation products and previously unknown compounds.
  • You perform software-based non-target screening (NTS) evaluations using high-resolution mass spectrometric data.
  • You elucidate the structures of unknown compounds and transformation products by means of HRMS data, including planning, conducting, and interpreting MS/MS fragmentation experiments to confirm structural hypotheses.
  • In addition, you document and communicate results to internal and external project partners and support the development and optimization of analytical methods in non-target and suspect screening.

WHAT YOU OFFER

  • completed degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or a comparable scientific field
  • in-depth knowledge of high-resolution mass spectrometry data analysis and experience in non-target screening (NTS) and structure elucidation of unknown compounds
  • solid understanding of mass spectrometry and the interpretation of MS and MS/MS spectra
  • hands-on experience with high-resolution mass spectrometers (Orbitrap, ToF) and related software packages (e.g., Compound Discoverer, MZmine, MS-DIAL)
  • independent, analytical, and structured working style, along with team spirit and interest in scientific questions in the fields of water treatment and environmental analytics
  • fluent English skills in writing and speaking; German skills are a plus

  • Gross annual salary (full-time): 48.000 - 61.000 €, depending on qualifications and professional experience - In addition, you can expect a bonus dependent on the company's success
