BASF's Palmyra, Missouri Plant is one of the world's leading producers of agricultural chemicals. We are currently seeking a Process Development Chemist to work at this facility.

Process Development Chemist (1704502) – Palmyra, MO

As a Process Development Chemist, you will be responsible for the design, execution, and documentation of research projects and resource management within the group. You will identify, develop, document and help implement new or improved chemical processes for local production facilities or product-related locations.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Define and perform experimentation to support technical projects and resolve plant problems with limited supervision
  • Provide process expertise to department customers and laboratory peers
  • Interact with supervisor and other on-site/off-site personnel to identify, define and implement process improvement work
  • Prepare, operate, maintain lab hardware to safely perform process development projects
  • Record all information in lab notebooks for detailed documentation of experimental results
  • Review and interpret results to define and perform follow-up studies to meet project goals
  • Prepare verbal presentations and written reports to communicate project status and results
  • Provide leadership in helping develop technical projects and goals
  • Develop and obtain pertinent data to recommend actions with economic justifications
  • Review literature to keep current on new technologies/products for possible applications to BASF processes
  • Participate in cross-functional teams

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent


Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

  • BS in Chemistry, or Related Scientific Field
  • 7+ years of laboratory experience in chemistry, with an emphasis on organic chemistry (ex: AgChem, Pharma, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience as a production-oriented Process Chemist
  • Demonstrated judgment and persuasion skills when interacting with peers, customers and management
  • Strong communication, safety orientation, analytical/problem solving, organizational skills, team-building, and team-working skills

We Also Look For…
  • MS/PhD in Chemistry
  • 10+ years of experience as a broad-based Process Chemist (ex: PhD laboratory work, direct industry laboratory work, and/or application of process engineering principles, etc.)
  • Broad understanding of chemical processing, beyond existing products and procedures
