Instrument/Electrical Maintenance Engineer (1900288) – Freeport, TX

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to be responsible for providing instrument and electrical engineering expertise to an assigned area of the site. In this role, you will assure proper design, installation and repair of instrument and electrical equipment according to regulatory and BASF standards. You will provide expertise to support maintenance, operations, and capital project activities. Additionally, this position ensures a culture of continuous improvement employing LEAN Manufacturing tools. The scope is instrumentation, some controls (DCS/PLC) and electrical, typically less than 600 volts.

Formula for Success

  • Leveraging your education in Electrical or Chemical Engineering and experience in petrochemical instrumentation and/or electrical maintenance, you will provide troubleshooting support and recommendations to operating units on equipment repair/ reliability, including emergency work reviews.
  • Demonstrating your knowledge and experience in providing technical guidance, you will provide technical support to the Maintenance Supervisor, specialists and craftsmen on difficult repair activities. Your strong problem-solving ability will be essential as you participate in or lead Root Cause Failure Analysis and execute corrective actions for complex and/or repetitive problems. Utilizing your broad based, hands on knowledge and experience with various types electrical systems, instrumentation, and control valves, you will initiate and/or modify predictive and preventive maintenance programs as necessary, utilizing SAP task lists for specific instructions and scheduling of PMs. You will also design and implement small to medium scale instrumentation and electrical loops and devices including orifice and valve sizing as well as NEC and other applicable code adherence. Using your knowledge of SPI (InTools) or other instrument database packages, you will maintain loop specifications and drawings and ensure the update and integrity of information therein. Your experience with safety instrumented systems will be essential as you maintain and own the safety lifecycle for existing safety instrumented systems and lead efforts in designing and developing the lifecycle for new systems. Using your proven organizational skills, you will be responsible for defining and ensuring strategic spare parts are managed and maintained. Striving for innovation and thinking analytically, you will support project design, commissioning and startup activities. Your effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as reliability centered maintenance work practices will be a valued asset as you assist in recommending training and development options for in-house maintenance resources. Your strong desire for continuous improvement as well as your communication and interpersonal skills will drive you to partner with operations, controls, and reliability teams to ensure the strategic and tactical success of the individual teams and the business.
