Project Quality Engineer (2100705) – Wyandotte, MI


Where the Chemistry Happens


We are seeking a professional like you to support product development projects to gather, define and meet all relevant engineering quality requirement(s) according to customer and BASF processes.  You will be the customer representative and have the responsibility and authority to ensure that customer requirements are addressed.  You will also ensure all QM rules are in accordance with IATF 16949/ ISO14001 / ISO 45001 / VDA / AIAG procedures and drive a proactive QM mindset in the BU. 


Travel for the role is estimated at approximately 10% of the time.

Formula for Success


  • Leveraging your education in mechanical engineering and your work experience in quality management within the automotive or similar industry, you will be the single point of contact/ interface for the Project Manager and for the Customer for all quality relevant topics in the project and drive Quality communication with the customer.
  • Your ability to work in a dynamic environment will aid you as you ensure customer Quality requirements are understood in the organization and ensure consistency of key characteristics from design to series process.
  • Relying on your experience in coordination and facilitation of cross-functional team meetings, you will work in a global Quality team to align customer needs/expectations and requests.  You will also handle “Customer Specific Requirements” with Audit/Document Quality Management and related departments.
  • Your familiarity with quality tools such as APQP, PPAP, 8D, 5why, SPC, FMEA, etc. will be essential as you plan and prepare PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions on new products and engineering changes to meet customer deadlines and customer specific requirements.  You will also drive and facilitate all quality-related activities associated with customer product introductions within APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and actively participate in the development and maintenance of FMEA’s, verify that Lessons Learned are used in the D/P FMEA, and update process flow charts and control plans.
  • Working with a sense of urgency and the ability to meet deadlines and multiple demands, you will drive NCM handling and warranty process and ensure that major customer complaints are resolved sustainably.
  • Demonstrating your experience in identifying, analyzing, and resolving quality issues, you will analyze data to detect quality problems and recommend corrective action.  You will also validate deviations in Engineering Gate Reviews and recommend necessary actions.
  • Your excellent communication, coordination and negotiation skills will serve you well as you lead customer audits and perform process and quality system audits to ensure compliance to specifications and documented procedures.  Additionally, you will use these skills as you drive “Quality Assurance Agreements” (QSV) with internal departments and the customer.
  • Your strong customer focus will be evident as you work in customer systems - leading “self-assessments” and drive answers internally.  You will also closely measure and monitor customer satisfaction.
