BASF’s North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP) is strongly committed to attracting talented candidates like YOU to join our manufacturing workforce, where you will have the opportunity to grow your career through great work experiences further enhanced through on the job training and skills development.

 

As part of BASF’s North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP), apprentices participate in a 12-month program offering hands-on work experience in BASF’s chemical manufacturing plants while attending Motlow State college to earn a company paid BASF specific Production Technician. While participating in the NAADP, apprentices will be offered paid tuition, wages, and access to benefits. After the successful completion of the NAADP, apprentices will have completed a BASF specific Production Technician and received on the job training directly related to the BASF Production Technician roles.

Start date is August 1st of 2022. Apprentices will report to the Operations Manager who, along with the assigned sites’ manufacturing staff, will support the Apprentice throughout the NAADP.

Production Operation Technician Apprentice (2201504) – Sparta, TN

 

Entry Level Pay Rate - $16.75 hr progressing to $18.00 hr upon completion of the program.

 

Purpose:

The apprentice in this position will be responsible for learning the safe and efficient operation of the production equipment in the plant. Such as but not limited to the operation of chemical processing equipment, including reactors, refining, and filtration systems. Apprentices will learn how to transfer materials to and from other departments, load tank trucks and rail cars. Apprentices will work to become highly skilled and possess the knowledge that allows us to produce a quality product promptly and efficiently.  

Apprentices will report directly to Production Supervisor, who along with the assigned site manufacturing staff, will support the apprentice throughout the NAADP.

 

Major Responsibilities:  

The Production Operations Technician Apprentice will work with their trainer(s) to learn to:  

  • Conduct routine safety and equipment inspections and utilize various reporting mechanisms to rectify issues.  
  • Record proper operating and material information for production lot processing.  
  • Operate manufacturing equipment according to production ISO/TS16949 procedures.  
  • Follow process set-up instruction sheets, blend instruction sheets, etc.  
  • Prepare packaging for finished goods with proper labeling and materials identification.  
  • Gather, stage, and load proper materials for product compounding.  
  • Collect samples for QC and color testing.  
  • Perform housekeeping to maintain production and operations in neat and orderly condition.  
  • Operate peripheral and auxiliary equipment such as fume collection system, dust collection system, bulk pellet transfer systems, etc.  
  • Participate in problem-solving to make necessary equipment repairs or process corrections to maintain required production quality and volume.  
  • Operate a forklift to move needed raw materials and scrap materials to properly designated areas.  
  • Provide production or operations support as directed by Shift Supervisor or other management.  
  • Complete audits and inspections (total productive maintenance, housekeeping checklists, etc.).  
  • Complete computer based self-assessment.  
  • Complete required monthly training (classroom training, computer-based training, etc.).  
  • Troubleshoot problems in support areas.  
  • Complete paperwork with minimal amount of errors.  
EHS:

 

  • Adhere to established safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.  
  • Participate in incident investigations.  
  • Accomplish day-to-day and recurring EHS activities  
  • Safety suggestions  
  • Proactive hazard recognition and EHS issues  
  • Attend and participate in Safety meetings  
  • Waste management activities

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma or GED  
  • Good Communication Skills  
  • High Level of attention to detail
