As part of BASF’s North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP), apprentices participate in a 30-month program offering hands-on work experience in BASF’s chemical manufacturing plants while attending community college to earn a company paid Mechatronics Technology AAS. While participating in the NAADP, apprentices will be offered paid tuition, wages, and access to benefits. After the successful completion of the NAADP, apprentices will have earned a Mechatronics Technology AAS and received on the job training directly related to the BASF Production Technician roles.

Apprentices will report to the Operations Manager who, along with the assigned sites’ manufacturing staff, will support the Apprentice throughout the NAADP.   Mechanical Maintenance Technician Apprentice (2201505) – Sparta, TN

 

Entry Level Pay Rate - $17.55hr progressing to $19.50hr upon completion of the program.

 

Purpose:  

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician Apprentice will develop skills needed to provide technical support for the BASF Sparta site by performing technical duties throughout the facility to ensure safe and reliable equipment, installations, and buildings. Gain skills and knowledge to provide expertise and training on areas of maintenance activities and the operation of equipment. Provide support in areas outside of normal duties as needed, i.e.: Project Management, third party contractors. Provide support to the site by the installation of new equipment by following all guidelines and policies. Give first line technical support by failures or breakdowns. Work together with production employees for technical innovative solutions.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician Apprentice will work with their trainer(s) to learn to:

 

  • Supports Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) efforts.  
  • Maintain, rebuild, and repair a wide variety of production, processing machines and equipment.  
  • Develop mechanical skill sets, including welding, fabrication, and pipefitting skills.  
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments for repairs and maintenance of machinery and equipment.  
  • Use measurement devices, calipers, and micrometers to inspect machine parts.  
  • Develop general knowledge of electrical equipment such as controllers, PLC’s, and electric meter usage.  
  • Support non-production maintenance and repair.  
  • Lead RCFA /RCM events.  
  • Proactively finds ways to improve plant uptime while performing PM’s.  
  • Make recommendations to improve existing PM’s to improve effectiveness and updates PM’s, modifications including equipment changes.  
  • Contact suppliers for troubleshooting/repair assistance.  
  • Update KPI metrics, including tracking RCFA trends for specific equipment.  
  • File all completed PM’s for ISO and is an ISO/TS16949 maintenance representative.  
  • Contribute to and complete construction (capital type) projects as assigned.  
  • Utilize RCFA / RCM process to improve equipment uptime.  
  • Complete preventative and predictive maintenance activities, including completion of RCFA’s / RCM’s (12/year).  
  • Minimize downtime of plant equipment through the effective use of I&E Electrical/Electronic maintenance skills.  
  • System and component troubleshooting and repair of production and site equipment.  
  • Rebuild and/or maintain a wide variety of production and site equipment.  
EHS:  

  • Adhere to established safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.  
  • Participate in incident investigations.  
  • Accomplish day-to-day and recurring EHS activities  
  • Safety suggestions  
  • Proactive hazard recognition and EHS issues  
  • Attend and participate in Safety meetings  
  • Waste management activities
