As Technician III for Global Insecticide Research (APR/I) you will work collaboratively with a diverse group of leaders and research scientists at the North American Headquarters of BASF Agricultural Solutions US LLC in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, United States, which is home to state-of-the-art laboratories, research greenhouses, and offices.
In this role, you will join an interdisciplinary team focused on the discovery of novel, selective, and safe insecticides for crop protection. Specifically, you will be a member of the Screening and Advanced Testing Initial Characterization Team, focusing on biological performance of agrochemicals.
This position will primarily focus on the preparation of plants and compound solutions, handling of insects, evaluation of tests, and laboratory maintenance. The candidate will need to observe and promote safe work practices and good housekeeping while performing the job duties. This role requires that you be willing to handle live insects and compounds of unknown toxicity. Weekend and holiday work, on a rotational basis, is required.
During your time as a Technician III, you will
- Prepare and handle insects and plants
- Prepare chemical solutions both by-hand and with an automated liquid handler
- Apply experimental compounds to plants/insects
- Infest plants and test vials with insects
- Maintain plants in growth chambers
- Evaluate tests
- Prepare and issue reports in Excel
- Maintain a clean work environment while performing job duties
- Collaborate with R&D teams and managers within the department
- Complete required training on-time in critical areas of relevant processes and respective hazardous materials (hazard categories and related hazard potentials), as well as identify and assess risks in everyday operations
If you...
- Possess a High School Diploma as minimal degree with 3+ years in a laboratory environment, or an AAS in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
- Follow and perform protocols in an accurate and consistent manner
- Demonstrate initiative by optimizing current protocols, developing more efficient workflows, and suggesting ways to operate more safely in the lab and offices
- Use your scientific rigor, promptness, and systematic experimental approaches to support managers who need high quality, reliable data to make project decisions
- Have strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Possess an unwavering commitment to workplace safety
