Now hiring! Technical Service Manager, Industrial Specialties Market

Remote - US

We are looking for a Technical Service Manager to join our Industrial Formulators, Care Chemicals team in the US.

Come create chemistry with us!

BASF’s Care Chemicals division is a leading global supplier of intermediates to cosmetics, detergents, and industrial manufacturing segments. We also offer solutions for technical applications and industrial process markets. Together with our customers, we create innovative solutions to meet the current and future needs of society more sustainably. We contribute to the long-term success of our customers’ brands with a broad range of products and via our global network of production and development sites.

Industrial formulators deliver value by servicing high-value life-science and industrial specialty segments with high-performance ingredients used across diverse industrial applications.  We elevate everyday outcomes through superior chemistry, that boosts application and process performance, supplying surfactants, chelates, and water-soluble polymers to industrial customers and end-use markets including agrochemical; CASE raw materials (emulsion polymer latex manufacturing, aqueous resin emulsions, wetting and rheology modifying additives manufacturing, pigment dispersions); pulp and paper; water treatment; rubber/plastic; textile & leather; health, and contract/chemical processing manufacturing.

We are seeking a results driven professional to join the Industrial Formulators, Care Chemicals team and lead field technical market development for the industrial specialties segment. You will own the segment’s technical pipeline and lead day-to-day field execution – building and nurturing technical relationships with customer R&D and technical teams through regular on-site engagement, troubleshooting, and application support.  You will provide hands-on technical service to solve problems, drive new customer project development, deliver technical trainings, and accelerate adoption of our portfolio by providing data-driven performance justification that supports commercial wins.

As the end-market technical expert, you will partner closely with the commercial team to identify and pursue customer opportunities, coordinating with regional and global technical and development teams to deliver tailored customer solutions.  You will develop and optimize field tactics that translate technical capabilities into business value, lead technical project delivery, strengthen BASF portfolio position, and elevate BASF as the preferred surfactant partner for customer technical teams across industrial end-markets.

As a Technical Service Manager, Industrial Specialties Market, you create chemistry by...

  • Customer Technical Support: Leads field technical activities and serves as the primary technical contact for customer R&D, production, and technical teams.  Resolves complex technical issues and provides application expertise and builds strong long-term technical relationships through proactive engagement and timely follow-up.
  • Technical Project Leadership: Builds and own the technical opportunity pipeline; leads customer technical projects guiding technical teams on application testing and troubleshooting to meet customer needs.
  • Product & Application Development Support: Identifies customer pain points and unmet needs; collaborate with R&D to modify or develop products and support new production introductions and commercialization
  • Commercial & Sales Support: Collaborate with commercial and marketing teams to support account managers by developing segment-specific value propositions, technical briefs, and application data that demonstrate customer benefits and enable formulation success.
  • Technical Sales Enablement: Develop and maintain end market-specific technical sales collateral (presentations, technical selling stories, case studies, sales spotlight programs, and internal training) to enable sales across distribution, direct sales, and BASF internal transfer partners – to win business and achieve correct market technical positioning for the BASF portfolio.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor market trends, raw material shifts, competitor activities, customer needs, and relevant regulatory changes; translate insights into actionable recommendations for segment strategies, product development, and portfolio positioning

If you...

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or a related scientific discipline, a MSc/PhD is a plus.
  • Bring minimum of 8 - 10 years of direct experience in formulating, conducting application work, and providing technical service in the fields of emulsification, dispersing, defoaming and rheology modification for industrial market segments of emulsion polymer latex synthesis, aqueous resin emulsions based coatings formulations, pulp, textile, chemical processing and manufacturing and water treatment using surfactants, water soluble polymers, chelates and acid based catalysts.
  • Have strong hands-on formulation and troubleshooting skill, with demonstrated ability to solve  complex technical challenges across known and novel applications
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, customer-oriented with a focus on delivering value and building long-lasing partnerships
  • Have commercial awareness with the ability to translate technical benefits into customer value propositions and sales enablement tools
  • Are willing to travel frequently to customer sites (jointly and independent of sales) - about 50-75% of the time.
