This position will be responsible for the effective planning, implementation, and control of assigned capital projects focusing on the effective utilization of contractor and engineering resources to bring assigned projects in on schedule and on budget.
As a Sr Project Engineer I, you create chemistry by...
- Leading a portfolio of capital investments, developing project scopes, estimating costs, and preparing funding requests while ensuring safety reviews and optimizing project scope, schedule, and costs through Value-Based Engineering practices (VBEs).
- Establishing partnerships with project manufacturing representatives, overseeing projects from initial scoping to final documentation and closure, and collaborating across the organization.
- Supporting Operations by providing strong technical support through partnerships with local teams and regional/global stakeholders to ensure project success and foster a culture of excellence.
- Managing SAP project data, monitoring progress through scheduling tools, reporting project status, and controlling spending through tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.
- Driving sustainable and innovative solutions to enhance the efficiency and predictability of capital projects and continuously improve the services provided in the capital work process.
- Providing guidance and supervision to University CO-OP Student Interns who are working on projects.
If you have...
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, preferably in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Systems Engineering.
- Registered membership with APEGS and hold a P.Eng. designation, or are eligible for licensure.
- 7+ years of experience.
- Experience in manufacturing processes; experience or specialization in chemical processes is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in project management and contracting, including direct collaboration with contractors and consultants to foster effective working relationships.
- Proven ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Experience in defining project requirements, articulating scope for contracts, and managing Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts constructively and maintain positive team dynamics.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in project controls, forecasting, and maintaining healthy project budgets across a portfolio of projects.
- Proven track record of maintaining forecast accuracy KPIs.
- Field experience and are comfortable with a “boots on the ground” approach—working directly with contractors and maintaining field presence rather than delegating.
- Experience ensuring strict adherence to EHS policies applicable to industrial chemical manufacturing facilities.
- Experience in incident management and root cause analysis techniques.
- Expert in the use of Microsoft Office – knowledge of SAP and CAD an Asset.
- Knowledge of applicable Codes and Regulations e.g. – CSA, API, ASME.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities, with an ability to influence and manage without authority in a way that positively motivates colleagues in a collaborative way.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and plan while adapting effectively to change and working confidently in fluid situations.
- Knowledge of government safety and environment regulations.
