 Agronomist Product Development (PD) (2103227) – Parma, ID headquarters - Remote role, East Coast USA


Where the Chemistry Happens 


As a Technical Reference in the industry and a profile with extensive knowledge on their specific area of expertise, the Agronomist PD is responsible for developing economically astute growing concepts that maximize our genetics.  With an external focus they build and deliver these concepts and other solutions towards SALES and ultimately customers that differentiate BASF/Nunhems.  They use their extensive network to meet these core goals and bring expert knowledge in and deliver knowledge out of our organization as part of customer team to best support strategic decision making for us and the customers benefit.  Positioned in PD the Agronomist plays a key role in driving excellence in variety data relevance, collection and data usage – and are consulted on product elevation.  They have a responsibility to educate and level up key stakeholders around them (knowledge transfer) to raise the overall technical level in CT and to ensure we are delivering a quality service and dialogue towards our customers.

Formula for Success


    Develop growing concepts and growing protocols for our genetics through research trial design.  Working closely with Sales, RPDS and Breeding to bring these concepts (including agronomic and economic know how) to our customers

    Play a distinct role in the ‘Customer Team’ delivering high level technical knowledge towards select customers aligned with sales.  Special attention to technology enabling technologies in the industry positioning Nunhems as a company valuable in consultation and bringing solutions.

    Seek out novel sales opportunities through an attractive and differentiated technical approach in accompanying our customers to optimize their crop output.

    Working as a technical reference in the market and building an external network of potential collaborators and information providers

    Increase our overall trialing excellence in the crop/area of focus, improving data accuracy, data relevance (in SCR & TRL) and data usage to better drive decisions and knowledge on our genetics.

     Raise the technical level of the sales team through structured and ad hoc training and support acting as the 'internal consultant'.

      Supports the RPDS, TS in portfolio decision making from a technical perspective.

    Leads the crop/area of expertise Project Portfolio being the Key Contact for research institutions and other bodies – and is responsible for ensuring project success and conclusion (aligned to Crop Strategy and R&D)

    Ability to step in to advise on advanced grower issues / complaints and support the transition towards offering solutions

    Ability to develop growing concepts that meet market needs and maximize pipeline

    Translation of concepts to economic propositions saleable to producers

    Ability to identify gaps in stakeholder knowledge and level this up in a pragmatic/supportive way

    Ability to discuss with customers and make a positive contribution to the customer team and the solutions the sales team have

    Strong research trial design mentality and quality of implementation

    Strong internal and external project/trial management including budget management

    Understanding of data relevance, collection and analytics to validate decisions

    Quality of market input for Hybrid Profile and Project determination based on excellent knowledge of markets and trends.

    Ability to develop an extensive network with industry players

    Level of collaboration with R&D (especially alignment with RPDS to prevent overlap). 

    Level of collaboration and support to Crop Team.

    Level of collaboration and support to GPDS and Tactical Team

    Drive to push the PD agenda of excellence and digitalization for quality and efficiency

Education & Experience


    Bachelor in Agriculture or equivalent experience, MSc in ag discipline desirable

    Extensive experience in the agronomic subject matter (10 years min)

    Greenhouse growing experience, a plus, especially high-tech greenhouse lettuce

    Fluent English

    PC literate, strong excel, and ability to use data collection and visualisation software

  • Advanced understanding of agronomic technology, plant physiology, genetics, the product development process and research trial design.

  • Although the role is remote, must live on the US East Coast and travel up to 50%.
