BASF/Chemetall, is the Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, and a leading supplier of applied surface treatments worldwide. At BASF/Chemetall, we develop and manufacture tailor-made technology and system solutions for applied surface technology. Our products protect metals from corrosion, facilitate forming and treatment, prepare parts optimally for the painting process and ensure excellent coating adhesion. We’re looking for a Lead Learning Experience Designer to join our team in New Providence, NJ.

 

This individual will own the design and development of high‑impact digital learning across the organization. In this role, you’ll transform SME insights into engaging eLearning, shape our learning ecosystem, and influence how skills are built company‑wide.

You’ll be the senior design authority on a small, collaborative team—an expert contributor with autonomy, visibility, and room to innovate.

eLearning Design & Content Development

  • Own end to end design and development using Articulate Storyline and Rise to ensuring engaging content.
  • Collaborate with SME to create innovative and interactive content that drives organizational priorities.
  • Apply adult learning principles, practice-based learning, and assessment strategies.
  • Drive design, consistency, and quality across all learning assets as a collaborative leading partner within the team.

 

Adoption & Learning Experience Design

  • Design and implement learning journeys and curricula to facilitate employee development goals.
  • Promote and influence employee learning programs by creating thoughtful rollout frameworks and communication strategies.
  • Use data and feedback insights to make informed decisions on improving the learner’s experience.

 

LMS Administration & Governance

  • Manage course publishing, versioning, enrollments, and basic troubleshooting in alignment with the team.
  • Define and maintain LMS structure, taxonomy, and content standards.
  • Own reporting and insights to monitor and influence content to demonstrate training effectiveness.
  • Partner with HR/IT as needed on user access and system hygiene.

If you have...

 

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in instructional design or learning experience design.
  • Advanced proficiency in Articulate Storyline and Rise (portfolio required).
  • Experience administering or supporting an LMS in a corporate environment.
  • Strong ability to partner with SMEs and influence without formal authority.
  • Comfort balancing strategy, execution, and quality ownership.
  • Ability to lead through expertise, influence, and collaboration.
  • Experience designing employee development, technical, or role-based training preferred.
  • Familiarity with SCORM, accessibility standards, and learning analytics preferred.
  • Experience shaping learning standards, templates, or governance models preferred.

 

Skills

  • Strong project management and stakeholder‑coordination skills.
  • Ability to conduct needs assessments and align solutions to business goals.
  • Proficiency with multimedia tools (video, audio, graphics).
  • Strong understanding of accessibility and UX design principles.
  • Ability to analyze learning data to improve content and impact.

 

Work Location Expectations

  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite / 2 days remote

Pay transparency

 

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $90,000- $120,000. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
