Breeder (Nevada, Iowa)
BASF Corporation is seeking a Breeder (Nevada, IA) to consult and cooperate with the global soybean breeding teams to accelerate variety development and improve breeding techniques. Contribute to the development and realization of the soybean business strategy and to the overall implementation of this strategy as it relates to breeding, trait development, and new product pipeline. Develop and execute strategy for the successful, timely, and cost-effective development of improved soybean germplasm for the assigned regions of the U.S. Guide staff to build a successful breeding and seed purification program. Maintain a regional soybean breeding station in terms of staff, budgets, and resource allocation in a manner that builds a strong functional team, keeps projects on-cost and on-time, and facilitate overall implementation and realization of the soybean business strategy. Model and ensure compliance with and participation in the safety, stewardship and regulatory programs of the company. Supervise 3 Breeding Assistants. Up to 10% domestic and international travel required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Qualified applicants will possess a PhD or foreign equivalent in Plant Breeding, Plant Science, Crop Science, or a closely related scientific field and 3 years of experience as a soybean breeder in the private sector. Alternatively, employer will accept a Master’s degree in the specified fields and 6 years of experience as a soybean breeder in the private sector. Must have 3 years of experience in: variety testing; statistical experiment design; field plot techniques; statistical analysis and interpretation; and plant genetics and seed purification.
