Bilingual Media Relations Specialist – Hybrid, based out of Mississauga head office

 

Where the Chemistry Happens…

 

Reporting to the Communications Manager, this position will develop communication strategies and lead the tactical execution for the external communication strategy that supports areas like: sustainability, innovation, social engagement and government affairs. Using strong strategic thinking skills, creativity and media acumen and relationships, this position will focus on BASF Canada’s brand reputation and amplify the organizations voice with key stakeholders and relevant public. In addition, this position will focus on providing proactive issues management and crisis communications support.

 

Formula for Success: You Will…

 

Social Media Strategy Execution

 

    Manage, develop and execute the editorial calendar for social media channels
 

    Participate in global and regional social media meetings
 

    Align and partner with global and regional corporate and business communication colleagues on content and campaigns
 

    Gather metrics and provide overview of findings and recommendations  
 

Media Relations & Francization 

 

    Meet and build relationships with local journalists and media outlets
 

    Provide speaking notes in English and French to internal spokespeople
 

    Coordinate and develop media activities including news releases, announcements and interviews
 

    Provide media training to internal stakeholders 
 

Branding & Marketing 

 

    Develop marketing assets for internal and external purposes
 

    Facilitate branding agreements with 3rd party vendors
 

    Oversee the design of assets by hub or 3rd party vendor
 

    Manage and develop website content (visual and text)
 

Social Engagement 

 

    Developing agreements, consent forms, liability forms and registrations
 

    Create and execute internal and external communication campaigns per initiative/ partnership
 

    Meet with partners and internal stakeholders
 

Face-to-face Engagements

 

    Meet with corporate partners
 

    Attend sponsored events and tradeshows
 

    Support with site community open houses

Qualifications

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…  

    Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Political Science, or related field.
 

  • 5+ years’ experience in external communications, public relations, issues management and social media
 

  • Designing and executing external communication strategies that drive brand awareness with industry stakeholders, policy decision-makers, customers and relevant audiences
 

  • Writing and editing a variety of communication pieces with unwavering attention to detail (with a fulsome portfolio of past personal work)
 

  • Experience in a B2B environment
 

  • Managing crisis and issues management situations in a complex matrix environment
 

    Fluent in English and French (requirement)
 

    Extensive expertise and understanding of the Canadian media landscape with the ability to develop external communications such as media releases, briefing documents, presentations, letters and speaking notes
 

    Building relationships with targeted journalists in key media outlets, strategically advancing content for media coverage, responding to media inquiries and preparing internal stakeholders for interviews
 

    Ensuring timely and effective coordination of media activities, including news releases, interviews and announcements.
 

    Managing and executing a social media strategy, specifically, managing an editorial calendar, developing content, and reviewing analytics and metrics
 

    Leading and executing a communication strategy in multi-stakeholder and complex projects
