We are looking for a Seed Science Operations Specialist to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Lubbock, TX.

As a Seed Science Operations Specialist you will be responsible for the execution of field trialing protocols that support various Breeding and Trait Development programs. Located in Lubbock, Texas, this role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and evaluating field trials for the purpose of delivering high quality data, in support of product advancement. This role will mainly be focused on Breeding Yield Trials within the High Plains of Texas region. In addition, this team member will ensure high standards of compliance are upheld through collaborations with regulatory, stewardship, quality, and safety teams within the organization. 

As a Seed Science Operations Specialist, you create chemistry by...

  • Ensuring field trial management from planting to harvest, including activities such as field or seedbed preparation, planting, field maintenance, phenotypic data collection throughout the season, harvesting, ginning, seed processing, and seed packaging, etc…
  • Managing resources within assigned location, with the goal of achieving all breeding & trait development objectives and effective operation of the program. This includes facility operation & management, equipment maintenance, inventory management, and cross functional work.
  • Adhering to stewardship, regulatory, and QMS compliance programs, policies, and procedures.  This includes documentation, record keeping, data management, trial management, periodic trainings, audits, etc…
  • Participating in the local EHS program to ensure all activities are being performed safely and responsibly. This will include training of new employees and contributing to the safety culture within the team.
  • Establishing and maintaining industry presence and ensuring that BASF is up to date on current industry activities by participating in meetings or tours, as well as establishing contacts with external parties.

If you have...

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or diploma in agriculture or related discipline. Master’s degree in agriculture or related disciplines an asset.
  • 2+ years of seed industry experience and variety characterization with related experiences in variety development, cotton yield trialing, and managing trials. 
  • Experience in conducting research trials and production practices of cotton.
  • Experience with cotton agronomy, plant breeding, genetics, pollen flow, and genetic purity, are all assets.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting tractors, sprayers, planters, plot harvesters, and other related small plot equipment an asset.  
  • Experience in small plot ginning, seed processing and seed packaging are all assets
  • Experience loading, unloading, and trailering equipment an asset.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to be flexible and modify plans as required to minimize impact on data and production as situations arise.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team either as a member or supervising contract employees is required in fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • Ability to obtain Drone Pilots License.
  • Ability to travel 5-10 days per year, domestically.
