We are looking for a Sr. Environmental Specialist to join our NAF team in Freeport, TX.

As a Senior Environmental Specialist at the BASF Freeport Site, you will provide leadership and technical support for plant specific environmental compliance and performance, partnering closely with operations, engineering, and cross‑functional teams to ensure environmental requirements are understood and integrated into daily activities in alignment with corporate expectations and applicable regulations. You will support compliance efforts across multiple environmental media, assist with permitting and reporting activities, and help interpret regulatory requirements to drive consistent application across the site. The role includes participation in audits, regulatory interactions, incident response support, and continuous improvement initiatives, as well as contributing to the development and delivery of environmental training to promote awareness, accountability, and a strong compliance culture. This position reports directly to the Environmental Manager.

As a Sr. Environmental Specialist, you create chemistry by...

 

  • Providing technical and regulatory guidance to site operations and supporting teams by interpreting environmental requirements as well as helping ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate standards.
  • Partnering with operations, maintenance, engineering, and technical teams to identify and implement environmental compliance improvement opportunities, supporting incident investigations, and participating in management system processes, change reviews, and corporate audits.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and submitting environmental reports and permit applications, as well as supporting permitting activities for new, modified, and existing operations.
  • Serving as a key point of contact for environmental regulatory interactions, supporting inspections, audits, compliance investigations, and follow‑up actions as needed.
  • Supporting and mentoring environmental compliance personnel across production units by providing training, regulatory interpretation, and guidance to promote a strong, consistent site-wide compliance culture.

If you...

 

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, or a related technical degree or equivalent blend of knowledge and experience.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of environmental regulatory and technical experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental regulatory programs applicable to large manufacturing or chemical facilities and related federal and state regulatory frameworks (e.g., Title V, NSR, MACT standards, etc.).
  • Are able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and follow through on complex tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with regulatory agencies, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Are willing to provide rotational 24 hr. on-call environmental support and up to 5% travel as needed.

 

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of environmental regulatory and technical experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with Hazardous Waste Combustor (HWC) MACT requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills, including mathematical calculations, and interpretation of environmental data.
  • Experience mentoring compliance personnel and delivering regulatory training.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications.
