As a Coatings Specialist SR you will provide technical leadership and manage onsite paint, coatings, linings, and fireproofing contractors—overseeing performance, safety, quality, budgets, and continuous improvement.

You will be required to travel 5% of the time.

As a Coatings Specialist Sr., you create chemistry by...

• Providing oversight for onsite paint, coatings, linings, and fireproofing contractors to ensure performance, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Serving as the primary interface between BASF and painting/fireproofing vendors; managing contracts, bid processes, specifications, and contractor invoices.
• Developing and maintaining annual paint and fireproof scopes by unit/plant; performing field take-offs, planning, estimating projects, and managing the ~$10M annual contractor budget.
• Monitoring and reporting environmental and regulatory metrics (EPA, SARA 313, VOCs, abrasive blasting emissions) to BASF EHS and maintaining site paint and fireproof surveys and standards.
• Monitoring day-to-day coating, lining, and fireproofing activities in the field; enforcing safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
• Providing technical expertise and consulting to internal stakeholders; participating in continuous education, professional organizations, and internal committees.
• Reviewing and interpreting contract documents, P&IDs, orthographic and isometric drawings, and applying performance-based contracting principles.
• Utilizing Microsoft Office and SAP work order/ordering systems to develop and manage daily work plans and perform spreadsheet computations.

If you...

• Hold a high school diploma or equivalent and bring a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience managing contracts in chemical plant or manufacturing environments.
• Hold NACE Level 3 Coatings Inspector or AMPP Senior Certified Coatings Inspector certification and maintain familiarity with quality control techniques in the painting, coatings, and fireproofing industry (Preferred)
• Have the ability to read and interpret contract language (including performance-based contracting), P&IDs, orthographic and isometric drawings, and apply those to project planning and contract management (Preferred)
• Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and SAP work order/ordering systems.
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
