As an Assistant Corporate Medical Director, you will play a key role in advancing the organization’s occupational health vision, strategy, and operational direction ensuring high quality delivery of corporate medical programs across North America. You will support the Corporate Medical Director in guiding the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Corporate Medical organization’s strategy, programs, and services, as well as help ensure that Corporate Medical effectively addresses the occupational health needs of employees across all business units and work environments. In this capacity, you will contribute to organizational leadership, serve as a North American representative within the Global Medical Organization, and foster collaboration, consistency, and excellence across regional medical programs.
As an Assistant Corporate Medical Director, you create chemistry by...
- Providing medical leadership and operational oversight of BASF medical staff and the external clinical provider network, while also ensuring the effective delivery of required medical examinations, including pre‑placement, periodic surveillance, job certification, fitness for duty, and other special employee exams requested by authorized entities.
- Ensuring full compliance with BASF occupational health practices, policies, and procedures, as well as applicable federal, state, and local regulations, while also maintaining and safeguarding the confidentiality of BASF employee medical records and performing additional medical services as requested by the Corporate or Associate Corporate Medical Director.
- Managing the development of strategic measures to maintain and improve overall employee health and prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, while also collaborating with key stakeholders to support health‑promotion initiatives, hazard reduction efforts, and the successful execution of regional occupational health initiatives.
- Providing occupational medicine expertise and consultation to management on health matters affecting BASF facilities, as well as advising on occupational health topics, pandemic preparedness, crisis management, and the organization of first aid and medical emergency response at supported sites, including providing direction for facility health programs as requested.
- Engaging in regular production facility and laboratory inspections with a focus on exposures, ergonomics, hygienic conditions, and hazardous substances, while also evaluating medical and exposure data, such as hearing standard threshold shifts, for occupational illness determination, noise‑induced etiology, and workplace exposure restrictions.
- Selecting and supervising external medical providers and clinics for sites without embedded BASF medical clinics, while also serving as the collaborating physician for nurse practitioners at Freeport, TX and Geismar, LA, acting as medical director for the fire brigades at both sites, and working collaboratively with Site, Human Resources, and Environmental Health & Safety leaders, maintaining credibility and influence with community physicians.
If you...
- Hold a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree, with board certification or board eligibility in Occupational Medicine or in an additional clinical practice ABMS or BOS approved specialty. The following will be a plus: additional degree in Environmental Health Sciences or Public Health; NIOSH Spirometry Training; CAOHC Supervisor training; Medical Review Officer training; training or experience in Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene, and/or Epidemiology.
- Are licensed in at least one US state. License with Texas Medical Board, Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners, other Compact State License or eligibility for licensure, will be a plus.
- Possess 5+ years of clinical practice in Occupational Medicine, with familiarity with various relevant federal/state and local regulations (OSHA, MSHA, ADA, Workers Compensation). 8+ years of corporate Occupational Medicine experience will be highly valued.
- Have experience with budgeting and cost center management, and/or experience with Occupational Medical Program management will be a plus.
- Demonstrate leadership capabilities, and excellent communication skills.
- Possess knowledge of electronic Medical Data Systems and compliance reporting.
- Are able and willing to travel 20-25% of the time on average.
