The Petrochemicals division is the starting point of BASF’s petrochemicalbased value chains throughout the regions. The division manufactures and markets a broad portfolio of high-quality basic chemicals and tailored specialties for internal and external customers
We are seeking a professional like you to support, facilitate, and implement Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs designed to assure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements (federal, provincial, local) for our production facility in Cornwall Ontario.
As a Environment, Health & Safety Specialist, you create chemistry by...
- Providing technical and regulatory expertise to ensure occupational safety and environmental compliance at the site as part of a zero-incident mindset and be responsible for comprehensive occupational health and Industrial Hygiene (IH) support and oversight for the site.
- Working with management on identified EHS issues / recommendations / opportunities to foster continuous improvement of EHS programs and culture. Additionally, you will provide operational support for Environmental Programs including Air, Waste, and Water Permitting compliance.
- Assisting sites with the implementation of BASF’s Responsible Care® Management Systems (RMS) including, but not limited to, Control of Hazardous Energy - Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Powered Industrial Trucks, Hazard Communication, and Emergency Planning and Response. As a role model, you will reinforce a culture of behavior-based safety and support emergency response activities through the development of required drills and coordination of annual training.
- Performing exposure assessments, including exposure and hazard evaluation, as well as control solutions for chemical agents, biological agents and physical stress agents (e.g. occupational noise). Additionally, you will be responsible for data interpretation, data communication (monitoring reports and control recommendation), and regulatory compliance relating to occupational health and safety.
- Participating in capital project reviews consistent with the level of industrial hygiene, environmental and safety expertise needed and support the interface with regulatory agencies and third parties on compliance and enforcement issues as needed.
If you have...
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
- Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in a chemical / manufacturing environment preferred.
- Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Safety Regulations, Ontario Environmental Regulations (Air, Water, Noise, Waste) and Process Safety is required.
- Experience in engineering, operations and/or direct manufacturing support roles with an understanding of chemical processing and technologies is preferred.
- Experience in the implementation of Process Safety programs is useful.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is preferred.
