Chemical Operator Apprentice

BASF’s North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP) is strongly committed to attracting talented candidates like YOU to join our manufacturing workforce, where you will have the opportunity to grow your career through great work experiences further enhanced through on the job training and skills development.

As part of BASF’s North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP), apprentices participate in a 24-month program offering hands-on work experience in BASF’s chemical manufacturing plants while attending community college to earn a company paid Chemical Technology Operator Certification. While participating in the NAADP, apprentices will be offered paid tuition, wages, and access to benefits. After the successful completion of the NAADP, apprentices will have earned a Chemical Technology Operator Certification and received on the job training directly related to the BASF Chemical Operator roles.

Potential start date is August 8th of 2022.

Entry Level Pay Rate - $20.00hr progressing to $24.00hr upon completion of the program.

Chemical Operator Apprentice – Cincinnati, OH   Formula for Success: You Will…   Purpose of the Job

The apprentice in this position will be responsible for learning the safe and efficient operation of the production equipment in the plant. Such as but not limited to the operation of chemical processing equipment, including reactors, refining, and filtration systems. Apprentices will learn how to transfer materials to and from other departments, load tank trucks and rail cars. Apprentices will work to become highly skilled and possess the knowledge that allows us to produce a quality product promptly and efficiently.

Apprentices will report directly to the Site Trainer/ERP Coordinator and indirectly to the Senior EHS Specialist, who along with the assigned site manufacturing staff, will support the apprentice throughout the NAADP.   Nature and Scope:

Understands and follows safety rules, standards, practices, and policies.

Loading and unloading of tanks and rail cars and receipt of truck deliveries.

Performs collection of samples from tank cars and vessels.

Conduct visual inspection of operating equipment to determine current operating status.

Read, record, and interpret data of instruments such as reactors, tanks, pumps, filtration systems, etc. and makes corrective adjustments as required for efficient production runs.

Demonstrate proficiency at operating all production equipment with minimal supervision

Participate in all required safety training and wear proper personal protective equipment when working in the plant area.

Demonstrate effective operations of the DCS in daily work environment.

Perform housekeeping to maintain production and operations in a neat and orderly condition.

Works and communicates effectively with Supply Chain Planners, Logistics Planner, Production Coordinator, Maintenance, Lab, team members, etc. to accomplish high quality standards that meet/exceed customer requirements.

Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computer systems to complete work assignments.

Support and adhere to the principles of the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care®, EPA and OSHA initiatives by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers, and neighbors.  

EHS:

Adhere to established safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.

Participate in incident investigations.

Accomplish day-to-day and recurring EHS activities

Safety suggestions

Proactive hazard recognition and EHS issues

Attend and participate in Safety meetings

Waste management activities

Work Environment:

Heavy industrial – chemical manufacturing plant, 24/7/365 operation.

Job requires the ability to work rotating shifts

Job requires the ability to operate a forklift.

Hard hat, safety shoes, and safety glasses are required in all areas of the plant. Gloves, face mask/shield, uniforms, hearing protection, and dust mask may be required for specific tasks for short periods.

Frequent climbing of steps, bending, stooping, and reaching above shoulders. 

Occasionally lift and or move up to 55 pounds.

Must be able to work at heights and in small contained areas.

Job requires the ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…   Basic Qualifications:

    A minimum of one year of work experience where you exhibited the ability to learn on the job and use provided equipment/tools followed both written and verbal procedures/instructions complied with operational and safety guidelines demonstrated the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:

    High school Diploma or GED
