Where the Chemistry Happens…

This job is designed to solve problems and provide routine analysis from every portion of the business using analytical and polymer physics tools. This role supports R&D efforts, manufacturing projects, and customer problem solving using a breadth of analytical and polymer physics methods. This role will interface with scientists where knowledge of polymers and resins will be leveraged to solve problems and suggests course of analysis. Overall highlights:

    Develop and execute projects to analyze samples to solve problems using polymer physics and analytical tools such as SEM, rheology, GC/MS, GC/FID, LC/MS, HPLC, GPC, DSC, NMR, thermal analysis and similar techniques.

    Often you are the first contact for a problem and work with requester to determine methods needed to solve the problem rapidly.

    Support existing products with problem solving interacting with technical service representatives or manufacturing sites using methods in the lab.  Support new product development through competitive sample analysis and evaluation of samples from research reactors.

    Manage and prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic environment to support the business in the analytical lab.

    Combine results from several methods and several scientists to fully explain problems and customer observations.


Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success

    Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or related field.  Minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial experience in a laboratory environment.  MS in relevant field preferred.

    Knowledge and laboratory proficiency in the fields of SEM, SEM-EDS, and other appropriate analytical equipment such as GC, TGA, HPLC, GPC, microscopy, rheology, DSC or similar.

    Knowledge of SEM and SEM-EDS is critical to this role.

    Demonstrated ability to combine pieces of information together to reach a conclusion that explains the information available.

    Ability to interact with scientists to interpret results and ask probing questions to assist in the analysis of samples to solve problems.

    Creative and curious with a high degree of motivation and personal responsibility

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Highest standards of job safety, integrity, accuracy, reproducibility and attention to detail

    Highly proficient in MS Office

    Ability to balance curiosity, depth of analysis, and speed will be critical towards success.

    Ability to develop analytical methods based on standards and literature references to enhance capabilities of the lab and solve complex problems.

    Work on research teams to develop new products
