We are looking for a Senior Regulatory Affairs Team Lead - Canada to join our Agricultural Solutions (AP) team in one of the locations: Calgary, Alberta, Mississauga, Ontario,  Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for hybrid work or 100% Remote in Canada.

We are looking for a Senior Regulatory Affairs Team Lead – Canada like you to ensure license to operate with all (Federal, Provincial and Territorial) government regulations for BASF regulated seed materials in Canada. This includes compilation, document and information management, dossier preparation, dossier submission, and dossier defence. You will also lead the country registration strategy for assigned products, as per their global timelines and strategies. You will manage unexpected problem solving by identifying and implementing creative and flexible solutions to satisfy country requests in accordance with the global strategy. In this role you will also manage the CA Regulatory Compliance group in charge of obtaining the regulatory permits for import, movement and field release of regulated seed traits and monitors potential compliance deviations and will return to compliance before matters become critical. Also, this individual represents BASF by participating in Seeds & Traits regulatory related industry meetings and committees.

 

As a Senior Regulatory Affairs Team Lead - Canada, you create chemistry by...

 

  • Being responsible for all country Regulatory approvals at the federal, provincial and local level enabling Seeds and Traits Regulatory License to Operate in the country but in a connected global environment.
  • Defining the country registration strategy (timelines, resources, data requirements, etc.), being accountable for milestones and quality targets to achieve all necessary product approvals in line with project plans and business goals.
  • Being responsible and accountable for dossier process including information management, dossier preparation, dossier submission, and dossier defence.
  • Being responsible for the approval and management of the regulatory portfolio in alignment with the Global Regulatory Manager and the Regulatory Product Safety Manager ensuring the approvals are obtained in a timely manner.
  • Being responsible for regulatory permitting and compliance for all field-testing and movement of biological material activities with regulated material in the country.
  • Advising BASF Seed business teams on regulatory issues impacting company sales and profit; explores alternative regulatory strategies that can benefit the business.
  • Participating in monitoring country regulatory activities through interactions in industry associations. A high level of interaction is also required with external regulatory authorities and identify when it is necessary to call a meeting with regulatory authorities to respond to their queries, and is responsible for scheduling, coordinating and making sure that necessary follow-up occurs after the meeting
  • Makeing technical and action related decisions in conjunction with S&T Stewardship to address non-compliance and non-conformance when managing regulated materials, including monitoring potential compliance breaches before matters become critical.
  • Providing coaching, training, career development and succession planning for the country. Coordinating contracts and contractors/temps if needed for Seed Regulatory Affairs activities in the country. Supporting development assignments and movement of talent across units.
  • Creating an inclusive environment which embraces and drives value from diversity. Establishing and supporting a safety culture in which safety is number one priority.

If you have...

 

  • PhD with 5 years of experience, Master’s degree with 8 years of experience or Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience preferably in Life Sciences or related field.
  • Expertise in Seeds regulatory affairs and good understanding of scientific and political dimension including familiarity with permitting procedures for import, field research, compliance, and commercial approval process in Canada as it relates to the global business.
  • Dossier development for ag-biotech products: submission, follow up and any future reporting required after registration.
  • Working knowledge of ag-biotech trait development processes including quality management systems and stewardship processes/programs.
  • Prior experience dealing with CFIA or Health Canada for Seed and Trait Product approval process. 
  • Excellent project management skills and problem-solving experience.
  • People managerial experience. 
  • Ability to communicate internally and externally in technical terms on topics around agricultural biotechnology and Plant with Novel Trait (PNT) regulation.
  • Ability to interact with regulators to achieve positive outcomes for the company.
  • Ability to work within a team of diverse skills and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently to achieve critical tasks with tight deadlines.

Pay Transparency

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive pay range for this role is $100,880-138,710. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
