Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team.  In this role, you will be responsible for managing the planning and packaging, planting, maintenance, harvest, and post-harvest activities of yield trials, providing data to the wheat breeders for the North American spring wheat breeding team.  This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your superior problem-solving skills, attention to detail and accuracy.

This role will require you to obtain a commercial pesticide applicators license and a class A “Non-Tractor Trailer” CDL within 6 months of starting in this role.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success

A plant breeding program is unique, as many of the job duties are not taught in school, thus job experience is very helpful. A B.S. degree in Plant Science or related scientific fields (i.e. Agronomy, Genetics, Horticulture, etc), or a two-year degree with 4 years related work experience is preferred.

Demonstrating your previous experience in a plant breeding program, you will plan, coordinate, plant, manage, harvest, and manage post-harvest yield trial activities.

Your solid computer skills including Microsoft Excel, database management, and other software programs will be essential as you utilize a database for data collection.

Leveraging your experience with farm & research equipment and seed processing activities, you will aid in early generation nursery breeding activities and actively participate with all aspects of the wheat breeding program.

Your strong communication and management skills will serve you well as you coordinate activities between the US and Canadian spring wheat programs and oversee the training and activities of 2-8 third party contractors to complete tasks.

Being a flexible team player, you will support other wheat program activities in the field, offseason nursery or greenhouse operations.

Having a high expectation of BASF “Value Building Behaviors”, you will ensure safe operations and best practices, as well as follow stewardship directives.

Leadership Expectations: As a leader at BASF, you will play a key role in creating value for the company through people.  Our top candidate will be expected to enable greater personal success among our employees through quality people development, coaching, and performance management. Leaders at BASF are role models to help employees develop the competencies needed to implement BASF's strategy. Our expectation is that leaders will coach and develop team members to reach their full potential, and support relevant development assignments, opportunities and moves while motivating and challenging employees to drive high performance. Our leaders must be committed to "hiring the best" internally and externally at the same time they are creating an inclusive environment which embraces and derives value from diversity. Finally, a leader at BASF must establish and support our safety culture in which all accidents are preventable.
