Assistant Manager, Development & Optimization, SLO(005824)
With an investment of up to US$10 billion the new integrated site in Guangdong will be BASF’s largest investment and ultimately BASF’s third-largest site worldwide, operated under sole responsibility of BASF. BASF will install a steam cracker with a planned capacity of 1 million metric tons/year of ethylene and more than 40 process plants, which produce innovative and consumer-oriented downstream products.
A strong Site Logistics Operations (SLO) is important for the success of the new Verbund site. Site logistics connects the production facilities among each other, secures the raw material supply and acts as gateway to our customers. Time, costs and reliability of supply require logistics processes to be organized in a future-oriented way.
SLO Development & Optimization empowers the people of the SLO organization to manage the given complexity and ensures SLO keeps focusing on competitiveness by ensuring successful cross-unit collaboration and training management and by establishing measures of strategic development, cross-plant performance & quality management, cross-plant process optimization, demand & capacity balancing, cross-plant documentation, knowledge, and project management.
The SLO Optimization Assistant Manager independently works on projects in the fields of cross-plant performance & quality management, cross-plant process optimization and demand & capacity balancing, closely collaborating with the SLO community in general and the process managers in particular.
Responsible for supporting and driving the organization along the way of handling gaps between where it is and where it aims to be. Gaps are be made transparent, then prioritized and closed. Since we are currently building up the organization there is the unique opportunity to set new standards and ways of working.
The SLO Development & Optimization Assistant Manager has the following responsibilities, accountabilities, and subsequent tasks.
Process documentation and optimization:
• Responsible for process documentation like Logistics diagrams, Material flow master file, process flow diagrams, value stream maps
• Responsible for the continuous improvement process in the operation across plants together with the plants’ process managers. Select and implement optimization methodologies (e.g. lean management tools, 5S, shopfloor management, TPS)
• Maintain walkthroughs in operations and perform detailed process analyses to early identify improvement possibilities (with focus on operation, process, technology, automation, workflow)
• Assist in internal and external audits. Develop and implement improvements to gain:
o higher service quality
o higher reliability and responsiveness
o higher energy efficiency
o waste reduction
o cost efficiency
o improved process safety
Demand & capacity and performance management:
• Keeping track on the changes in capacity demand on a short-term, mid-term and long-term horizon
• Responsible to define, collect and control process related KPIs
• Administration (compilation, maintenance, updating, retrieval, and distribution) of relevant operational data in an easily assessable IT-system
Documentation and knowledge management:
• Generate document templates, e.g. for process documentation, interface alignments, presentations, meeting minutes
• Set-up shared folders, distribute documentation requests and updates (triggering the process flow, upload the documents, check the completeness etc.)
• Lead the preparation, documentation, and post-processing of meetings
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering / Logistics and Supply Chain Management / Mechanical Engineering / Software Engineering / IT
3 years experience in logistics operations, manufacturing or consulting
Project work experience
Strong communication and presentation skills
Organizational awareness as enabler for successful cross-unit collaboration
Strong analytical skills, project management skills
Strong knowledge in optimization methodologies
Professional English communication ability (spoken and written)
IT skills: knowledge especially system software Microsoft and Microsoft Office 365 programs (especially Excel, Power BI, Visio)
