Objectives of the Position 

  • Manage import export operations for Japan operating as one GB service unit together with hub GB and country GB and Supply Chain Management establishment,
  • Manage performance and development of import export operations.  
  • Lead management of logistics service providers (LSP) and lead logistics provider (LLP) in Japan
  • Performance steering for import / export in Japan, meeting regional and global import export performance results. This includes effective monitoring and leveraging analytics to sustain high level of operating discipline,
  • Responsible for risk management pertaining to team and service provider operations including but not limited to access management, data protection, business continuity process and periodic risk management reviews.
  • Ownership, participation and collaboration on global and regional import export community and initiatives and projects relevant to supply chain operations serviced by Global Business Service
  • Develop and responsible for establishment, adherence, and adequate documentation of supply chain, import export processes and compliance to global, regional policies and procedures. 
  • Collaboration and communication logistics procurement, logistics service providers, import/export community, business units, customer service and relevant stakeholders on, and not limited to -issue resolution, non-conformance handling, environment, health and safety and opportunities for continuous improvement including automation and digitalization initiatives.

 

 

Main Tasks

 

General

  • Responsible for import export operations targets, performance, deliverables
  • Responsible for service provider management of forwarder and liner/carrier / tank operators including performance management, service requirement and freight cost management.
  • Provide and recommend logistics solution and/ or subject matter advice to business, country, regional and global stakeholders,
  • Collaborate and support country Supply Chain Caretaker in country operational matters and with regional shipping management, operational vendor management.   
  • Master data monitoring in relation to import export operations.
  • Active participation in global, regional, and country level projects and initiatives for companywide projects, continuous improvement, and business requirement, where relevant to the scope of service 

 

Operation Vendor Management (LLP/LSP):

  • Management of service provider (LLP/3PL) service requirement, change management, knowledge transfer / transition, service performance, contract adherence and risk management (including access management)
  •   Continuous improvement of overall Import / Export management, carrier, and service provider operations.
  •   Risk management of LLP/3PL partnership and overall transport management.
  •   Cost management of LLP/LSP services

 

Operational Management:

  • Monitoring logistics functional costs and expenses in line with the budget 
  • Ensure compliance of new business or customer logistics service support and solution as per company policy and directive  
  • Identify, recommend, and implement measures to improve Import/Export process efficiency, effectiveness and operational costs and cost impact to the company.
  • Effective and efficient non-conformance management, issue log management and gap improvement
  • Maintain effective collaboration and engagement with country business and operational teams. Responsible as key person to share, disseminate and bridge global, regional import export updates to / from local stakeholders.
  • Manage customs foreign trade operations in Japan, as per Global Business Services scope
  • Ensure BASF Supply Chain operations are fully compliant for all applicable regulations, law and conforming with BASF policies and procedures (incl. process, inspection, inquiries and audits, …)
  • Constantly foster process harmonization and efficiency in supply chain processes within Japan operations. Share and implement best practices and updates locally, regionally and globally. Active participation in global communities
  • Ensure BASF maintains accreditation to key government trade facilities (e.g. AEO, free trade, bonded, special economic zones), and continuous development of leveraging trade facilities and benefits

 

 

Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position

  • Education: Degree in Business Administration or equivalent, Supply Chain Management, and other Degree with relevant work experience
  • Working Experience: Minimum 5 years in Supply Chain Management, Customs & Foreign Trade, Logistics, Freight/carrier management in Multinational Company with international exposure 
  • Technical & Professional Knowledge: Supply chain management / operational logistics knowledge, Customs and International trade knowledge preferred, SAP experience preferred, Business Intelligence Tools, Non-conformance management, good communication & collaboration skills
