Senior R&D Advisor

*Objectives of the Position
-To consult and advise in the Cathode Active Material (CAM) recipe development and sample scale up of next generation NCM materials for global battery cell players. This includes but is not limited to NCMA CAM materials as well as poly- and single-crystal NCM material (blends). Own and drive necessary actions internally. Furthermore, represent BM in technical exchanges with customers and translate the collected feedback into material and process improvement actions.
*Main Tasks
-Observe gaps in the current CAM product portfolio and suggest measures to close these based on customer needs in close alignment with internal stakeholders
-Consult on current recipe development activities for targeted customer projects and identify improvement actions
-Exchange on recipe development activities with R&D community and provide impulses for quick advancement
-Provide market intelligence on standard NCM(A) CAM recipe development practices and market trends based on existing industry experience and relationships
-Recommend measures to speed up sample preparation time and sample lead-times for customers
-Suggest actions to ensure reproducibility in the sample preparation process
-Contribute to improving the sample scale up activities
-Collaborate with the operations team to define manufacturing parameters for a smooth production launch
-Organize and represent BM R&D community in routine technical exchanges with customers’ key R&D personnel and translate the collected feedback into material and process improvement actions.
-Take ownership to resolve problems with the support of other internal functions (lead for coordinating trouble-shooting activities)
-Live customer proximity by building strong, long-lasting customer relationships across hierarchical levels and industry networks
-Maintain main customer-related documentation and communication in Salesforce (e.g. customer master data, visit reports)
-Draft documents as management presentations, joint development agreements (JDAs), etc. as needed in alignment with internal stakeholders
-Keep strong collaboration with internal stakeholders from sales, operations, marketing and supply chain to compile attractive customer offers
-Comply and promote EHS requirements within R&D
-Be a role model and develop self and others according to BASF’s Winning Ways strategy
*Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position
-Language: English fluent in writing and oral, Japanese is a strong plus, Native level of Korean
-Strong and extensive network within the battery materials and battery cell making industry
-Positive personality and strong communicator with the ability to build trustful customer relationships
-Working experience: more than 10 years sales in NCM(A) Cathode Active Material development
-Track record of successful CAM recipe development, sample scale up and commercialization
-Education: Bachelor’s Master’s degree or above in (Electro-)Chemistry or Material Science
