• The Digital Transformation Unit of BASF Coatings is a central department focused on accelerating the organization's digital roadmap. Acting as an eye-level partner to our global business units, the unit supports major digital projects using a lean startup approach, fostering agility and innovation. It also provides enablement support through digital consultation and upskilling initiatives. By driving collaboration and enhancing capabilities, the Digital Transformation Unit plays a pivotal role in transforming BASF Coatings into a more efficient and game-changing organization, ready to meet future challenges.
• As the Digital Transformation Manager, you play a major role in helping our business units move the needle on significant digital projects with expected high impact. Your digital project management expertise and out-of-the-box thinking shine through in navigating challenges and roadblocks in a PMO-like role on 'must-win' digital projects. You are passionate about driving real innovative change in the coatings industry. You are not afraid to make mistakes and live and breathe Design Thinking and Lean Startup principles.
• You are an integral part of an interdisciplinary team and are able to prioritize your own resources independently, with the objective of realizing maximum impact. Working with full ownership and a high level of independence, you report to and seek feedback from the DTU management. You are also regarded as a methodology coach by junior members of the team.
Main tasks:
• Co-lead major digital projects with business units by contributing digital project management methodology expertise and sharing business case accountability. These projects typically involve ideation, validation, prototyping, and handover.
• Build business case hypotheses, validate them throughout the process, and ensure impact delivery at the handover stage of the project.
• Communicate constantly and maintain good relationships with various levels of internal stakeholders to update project milestones and navigate roadblocks.
• Act according to lean startup principles to maintain agility and practicality, with a value-driven mindset.
• Adopt design thinking principles in daily operational work.
• Stay connected to the latest trends and dynamics in the industry and share insights with relevant stakeholders.
• Act as a digital project methodology coach during events, workshops, and training programs.
• University degree in a relevant field (e.g. business administration, information management, or similar). A master's degree or MBA is a plus.
• Relevant work experience of 5+ years as a full-time employee in central digital units, or corporate-startup collaboration units, digital consulting.
• Professional communication and pitching skills in business-fluent English and Chinese.
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: lean startup methodology, design thinking, agile and Scrum management, corporate-startup collaboration, UI/UX design, machine learning applications, and generative AI applications.
• Core values of accountability and passion for driving real change; not afraid to make mistakes and fail (fail fast, fail often); out-of-the-box thinking; sharp-mindedness; hands-on mentality; and entrepreneurial drive.
• Passion for tracking the latest digital technological use cases and advancements in the market.
• Availability for travel (within China and APAC).
• Experience in coatings or chemicals is a plus but not required.
