BASF has been operating in Malaysia for more than 30 years, through a number of wholly-owned companies and joint ventures in the country. BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was incorporated in 1989, and operates main office in Bandar Utama and a manufacturing plant in Pasir Gudang in Johor, as well as an operational site in Kulim, Kedah. BASF Asia-Pacific Service Centre Sdn Bhd began its operation in 2005. Located in Kuala Lumpur, the Shared Services Center provides functional services in the areas of finance, controlling, information services, human resources, environment, health & safety, procurement and import-export order management to BASF Group companies in 19 markets across Asia Pacific. BASF Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, established in 1997, provides infrastructure and utilities support services to BASF sites in Malaysia. BASF holds 60% of its joint venture BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd, which operates a state-of-the-art Verbund production site in the Gebeng Industrial Zone, Pahang, and 50% of Toray BASF PBT Resin Sdn Bhd. BASF posted sales to customers in Malaysia of approximately €390 million in 2021 and had 2,295 employees as of the end of the year. Objectives of the Position

This position will drive all the activities relating to the regional product safety and stewardship in Asia Pacific region engaging with R&D, production sites, sales, marketing, product managers and country experts.

 

Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities

Product Safety (Master Data)

This role is responsible for managing the master data within the organization. This role involves implementing data governance policies and procedures, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of master data, and collaborating with stakeholders to support effective decision-making and operational processes.

  • Data Governance: Implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the quality, consistency, and integrity of master data. Define data ownership and accountability across the organization.
  • Data Maintenance: Manage the processes for creating, updating, and maintaining master data records. Establish data quality checks and controls to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
  • Data Security and Privacy: Implement data security measures to protect sensitive master data, ensuring compliance with relevant data protection regulations and policies. Define access controls and permissions for different user roles.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business units and functional teams to understand their data requirements and ensure that master data supports their operational needs. Provide guidance and support to data users and resolve data-related issues or conflicts.
  • Data Quality Management: Establish data quality metrics and KPIs to measure and monitor the quality of master data. Conduct regular data audits and implement data cleansing and enrichment activities as needed.
  • Change Management: Manage changes to master data structures, hierarchies, and attributes. Ensure that proper change control processes are in place to minimize data inconsistencies and disruptions.
  • Training and Education: Provide training and education to users on the importance of master data management and best practices for data entry and maintenance. Foster a data-driven culture within the organization.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess and improve master data management processes and tools. Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in data management practices.

Product Stewardship

This role involves collaboration and engagement with various stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations, non-governmental organizations, customers, and the public. It requires a proactive and integrated approach that considers the entire lifecycle of the product and strives for sustainability and responsible management.

  • Risk Assessment and Management: Conducting thorough assessments of the potential risks associated with the product throughout its regulations, including raw materials sourcing, manufacturing processes, distribution, use. Implementing measures to mitigate and manage those risks.
  • Raw Material Management: Collaborating with suppliers and partners to ensure the responsible sourcing of materials, adherence to environmental and country legal standards, and efficient replacement and distribution practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Staying informed about relevant regulations and standards related to product safety, environmental impact, and worker health and safety. Ensuring compliance with these requirements and maintaining proper documentation.
  • Product Labeling and Communication: Providing accurate and transparent information about the product's potential hazards, raw material managements, and business impact. Ensuring that this information is effectively communicated to stakeholders, including customers, employees, and regulatory authorities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly evaluating and monitoring the country regulation and requirements, environmental footprint, and safety record. Implementing continuous improvement initiatives to reduce impacts, enhance safety, and meet evolving standards and expectations.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or equivalent
  • 5 years or more of relevant working experience in chemical regulations and/or Product Safety & Stewardship.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Prior knowledge of SAP system or relevant experience to utilize in Product Safety area.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Excel, Share Point, Power BI).
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of chemical regulations (e.g. chemical inventory) in Asia.
