Assistant Manager, Regional Operational Controlling
Objectives of the Position
The Assistant Manager, Regional Operational Controlling is responsible for regional planning and controlling activities, with a strong focus on digitalization, performance management, and capital expenditure governance. Key objectives include
- Integrating digital technologies into RBU reporting to enhance operational efficiency, improve data accuracy, and support strategic decision‑making
- Assessing, evaluating, and challenging RBU Capex investments and opportunities to ensure optimal resource allocation and maximum financial returns
- Facilitating and coordinating regional operational planning for the upcoming year, and monitoring business performance against budget and strategic targets
Main Tasks
Digitalization
- Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement a digital strategy specific to the finance function.
- Identify manual processes that can be automated to reduce errors and save time and improve productivities
- Maintain / develop dataflow for PowerBI automation, including but not limited to Daily Sales Report, Target Tracking Dashboard, KPI Tree, MER, AR / DSO & Overdue report / Fixed Cost / Capex Dashboard, etc.
Capex and reporting
- Develop and manage the capital budgeting process including proposed CapEx projects, determining their feasibility, analyzing potential returns, and prioritizing investments based on strategic objectives.
- Monitor the progress of capital projects throughout their lifecycle, ensuring that they are executed on time and within budget.
- Implement and maintain cost control measures related to CapEx to prevent overruns and ensure that expenditures provide value.
Planning & Performance Management
- Conceptualize and lead bottom-up operational planning in collaboration with relevant teams from Regional/Global BUs, and prepare the necessary data for projected change
- Provide local management with business/operation forecast and recommendation (Sales, cost, EBIT forecast, raw material price trend, capacity utilization, FX-exposure etc.) while highlighting risks early and provide solution suggestions
- Facilitate local BU target setting for KPIs and working capital, cascade operational planning information and continuously evaluate performance against targets, propose proactive action plans for improvement
Business Partnering
- Act as a trusted finance business partner to local and regional management, providing fact‑based insights to support operational and strategic decision‑making
- Deliver timely and high‑quality monthly management reports and commentaries, including: P&L, fixed costs, and cCM1, Working capital KPIs (AR/DSO, inventory/DIO, etc.), Production and headcount reports
- Proactively analyze business performance, identify deviations, risks, and opportunities, and translate financial results into clear management messages
Country Controlling
- Provide detailed monthly reports and commentaries on P&L, fixed costs, cCM1, working capital-related KPIs, production, and headcount to the RBU local management team
- Responsible for business-specific topics, proactively identify and address issues while closely monitoring working capital components to promptly alert the management of potential risks
- Support the Global Business service teams on various reconciliations, provide monthly forecasts for volume, net sales, and cCM1, and analyse costs related to local entities in Asia
- Address Non-Trade Business Transaction matters in relevant countries
Others
- Ad hoc support for regional/ country projects, e.g. support commercial audits
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in finance, controlling and planning from industrial environment or chemical industry; international company is preferred
Technical & Professional Knowledge:
- In-depth Knowledge and understanding in planning & controlling processes
- Advanced skills in MS Office applications, SQL / Dataflow automation
- Comprehensive understanding of SAP or other ERP applications
- Preferably advanced communication skill in both English and Mandarin
