Chargeman

Objective Of This Position

• To perform electrical maintenance tasks involving repairing, servicing, overhauling, rewiring, fitting, installing and dismantling plant electrical equipment as instructed by a work order or superior in order to put the electrical equipment and electrical system to function as intended.
  
  

Main Task

• Ensures that all safety, environmental and health rules and guidelines are being adhered to at all times to maintain an accident-free, healthy and clean environment at the workplace.
• Receives work order and discusses with Supervisor, Electrical on a job to be done for the day or days ahead.
• Understands the required things to do to carry out the job such as the task sequence steps, equipment and tools to use, materials needed, safety precautions, permits to work, fellow craftsman to work with and time required to complete the job.
• Prepares all the tools, materials, equipment and documents needed to do the work and performs the tasks as his scope, skill and knowledge allow involving dismantling, repairing, servicing, rewiring, fitting, installing, tightening, etc. as laid out in the Work Order.
• Ensures that he performs his work according to plan, schedule, quality of workmanship and be responsible for his own safety and the safety of his working colleagues while doing the work and to finish the job with  quality workmanship and within the timeframe expected.
• Ensures that the tools he handles are in good condition and safe to use.
• Ensures that all the spare parts he replaces with are of new/reconditioned ones with good quality and proper specification.
• Records all defects and faulty conditions of parts and equipment he observed and gives the report to the Supervisor, Electrical to be noted in historical record
• Records the actual work done as compared to the initial instruction from the work order as well as the actual start and finish time, the actual materials replaced, and result of test runs and commissioning.
• Trouble-shoots electrical problems in the shortest possible time during plant breakdown.
• Supports in controlling contractor workers in carrying out electrical maintenance work at site by coordinating the safety, security and quality issues with the workers and superior.
• Gives feedbacks/suggestions to improve the performance of the various electrical equipment to minimize breakdowns.
• Supports the implementation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 50001, IATF 16949 and Process Safety Management by practicing them accordingly to ensure full compliance with the requirements as stipulated in the system.
  
  

Requirements

• Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia or any technical certificate in electrical skills from any recognized Technical Training Institute.
• Possess AO Chargeman Certificate issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga Malaysia.
• 3 years in industrial or manufacturing plant environments as a wireman or electrical technician.
• Knowledge and skill in instrumentation will be an advantage
  
  

Technical & Professional Knowledge

• Skillful in using hand tools to do work on electrical equipment’s and components and any other electrical items available in a manufacturing plant, especially in a chemical processing plant.
• Knowledgeable in the technicalities of an electrical component such as the function, dimensions, assembly, installation, operation, maintenance, and safety limits.
• Knowledgeable in the mechanism and workflow in the maintenance management system such as the Work Order, reporting, recording, historical records, planning and scheduling.
• Knowledgeable in and aware of the dangers posed by plant electrical equipment and machinery when attempting to handle electrical repair work on these items.
• Knowledgeable and able to use electrical measuring tools and equipment.
• Able to read and interpret technical drawings such as the P&ID’s and machine assemblies.
• Familiar with the procedures of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 50001, IATF 16949 and Process Safety Management system.
• Knowledgeable on BASF regulations and directives on safety (and security) of installing, operating, and maintaining electrical equipment and machinery in chemical processing plant.
