Assistant Research Scientist
Objectives of the position:
Laboratory executive who will synthesize research chemicals with complete adherence to all BASF rules and regulations.
Representative Main tasks:
Safety Environment (SE):
- Ensure compliance with safety norms as per BCIPL Lab Safety manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Process Safety Manual and all Responsible Care guidelines.
- Reading MSDS for all reagents/solvents prior to ordering & setting-up of the reaction and discussing the same with Manager for any safety hazards.
- Demonstrate a proactive behavior in safety and actively drive safe behavior.
- Reporting more genuine unsafe condition to increase safety awareness & keeping good housekeeping of fume hoods.
- Any issue/incident (even if there is a doubt on safety relatedness) needs to be discussed with the concerned Manager (or his/her deputy) as and when it happens and reported appropriately.
- Compliance with corrective actions in safety incident reports
- First Aider in the Emergency Response Team (4th Floor, IC-Mumbai)
- Superuser responsible for maintenance and new user training for the following instruments and activities
Project management:
- Proposing synthetic scheme(s) based on literature/patent search for the target molecule(s) and choose the scheme(s) in discussion with supervisor for implementing them
- Chemical Reaction planning & implementation.
- Precise ELN documentation and lab notebook as per the protocol agreed upon with the supervisor. Effective to & fro communication with stake holders such as Managers, Team leads, Analytical team, Procurement etc to timely address & resolve the issues.
- Ensure confidentiality of all research activities as per communicated protocols.
Additional Responsibilities in lab:
- Support in maintaining the instruments & chemicals inventory to the best possible conditions & follow discipline.
- At least one responsibility per chemist such as looking after instruments rotavaps, vacuum pump, balance, inventory, solvents, combiflash, other lab activities etc as defined in the individual’s Target Agreement.
- Act as a mentor to intern(s) and monitor their work as assigned by supervisor.
Education & Qualification:
- Master of Science (M. Sc.) in Organic Chemistry or related area.
