Objectives:
Our team “Digitalization & Automation for R&D in APAC” covers a broad range of competencies from scientific modeling, data science, and lab digital workflow and automation. We provide our skillsets to improve both efficiency and effectiveness for R&D activities in collaboration with all business units of BASF in the region, meanwhile we also advance the methodologies and technologies in our expert fields. Our long-term vision is to accelerate the digital transformation of R&D for BASF.
In this role, you will be part of an implementation team of a R&D digital platform for BASF China, and specifically in charge of the data components that are integral for R&D digital processes. You will work together with the board R&D community and application owners to define, develop and maintain data products to serve different operational needs as well as for data science tasks. You will also work closely with the data analytics colleagues in the team to provide digital tools for R&D.
Main Task:
- Design and implement data platforms and solutions utilizing BASF's standard data solutions—such as data science platforms, data lakes, and data integration tools—to ingest multiple data sources from internal clients, process the data, and deliver data products for reporting and AI applications.
- Use appropriate data integration tools (i.e. Kafka, ETL tools like Azure Data Factory) to implement and maintain data ingestion from various sources.
- Build and maintain data management framework within data platforms, such as metadata management, data catalog
- Automate data processing workflows by utilizing orchestration & scheduling tools (i.e. Azure Databricks Workflow, Azure Data Factory) encompassing data transformation, data modeling, and data distribution.
- Establish quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data.
- Collaborate with data analysts and data scientists to develop BI reports and AI applications.
- Gather best practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of our data foundation products and tools.
- Work closely with internal customers to assess requirements, assist customers in leveraging the provided platforms and solutions, and facilitate project initiation.
Job Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree or above in computer science, data science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3-4 years related working experience as data engineer on cloud-based platforms
- Experience with SQL, Spark and data lake table format(Hudi, Iceberg or Delta table) is essential
- Experience in Agile way of working with a DevOps mindset
- Strong data integration skills to ingest source data, such as Kafka, or ETL tools like Azure Data Factory.
- In-depth know-how with big data concepts (data lake, data warehouse, Lakehouse, metadata) and big data tech skills (Spark, Python, SQL).
- Understanding of metadata management within data platforms.
- Understanding of data governance and data privacy best practices.
- The will and ability to drive change, a growth mindset with a curiosity to learn, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multicultural and virtual team environment
- Experience with CI/CD during data platform development
Nice to have:
- Experience with multi-clouds (Azure, Aliyun).
