Objectives of the Position
• Continuously develop BASF's Standard for Trade Compliance in the area of Business Partner Due Diligence, contextualizing for various business models
• Investigate Sanctioned Party true-matches and provide expert judgement
• Improve interfaces and processes with Trade Compliance Operational hub
Main Tasks
Continuously develop BASF's Standard for Trade Compliance in the area of Business Partner Due Diligence
- Review, maintain & develop compliance concepts and their implementation for all BASF legal entities in scope inclusive necessary instruments to control trade in the light of dynamic trade restrictions and sanctioned parties
- Collaborate with Trade Compliance Global Topic Owners e.g. Responsible Supply Chain, Embargos or Defense Military Compliance to co-develop BASF’s approach in regard to enhanced business partner due diligence
Business Model / Business Partner Consultancy
- Assess impact for EU sanctions packages from Business Partner perspective
- Support business units or service units with deep-dive evaluations on business partners upon request
- Liaison for ad hoc requests related to suspicious business partners, e.g., from Corporate Trade Compliance, Treasury, Corporate Legal or other functions with regard to Anti-Money-Laundering, German Supply Chain Act, Modern Slavery etc.
Recurrent Business Partner Checks & Reporting
- Recurring evaluation of financial institutions relevant for BASF, BASF employees, retirees
- Work with Trade Compliance operations hub to continuously streamline and improve processes for Sanctioned Party screening and true-match evaluation
- Provide reports to relevant accountable units
Requirements
Education
- University graduate in business law, legal studies, compliance, finance, banking, supply chain
Working Experience
- Min 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of foreign trade or compliance within banking sector, chemicals/ pharmaceutical/ life science industry, commodities trading, or mechanical /plant engineering international trading company
- Experience in managing risks
- Experience with sanctions procedures, KYC, due diligence process would be beneficial
- Experience with compliance tools (e.g., Dow Jones) would be beneficial
- Knowledge of Sanctions Lists preferred
Technical & Professional Knowledge
- Demonstrable analytical and conceptual thinking
- High critical thinking, investigative and problem-solving skills
- Entrepreneurial drive to take ownership until resolution including interfacing with Authorities if required
- Familiarity with BASF business processes would be a plus
