Senior QA Tester/Test Automation Lead

The Smart Maintenance Suite (SMS)’s vision is to enable plant maintenance excellence globally in BASF. The product aims to improve overall work productivity of plant maintenance workers through a simplified user interface that is fully integrated with SAP.
As the QA Test Lead, you will be responsible for leading the quality assurance testing efforts and ensuring that all software and products meet the highest standards before release. This will be a single contributor role and you will need to oversee the end-to-end process of QA and test strategies.
Responsibilities and Key Outcomes
- Develop, document, and maintain test strategies, plans, and test cases.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and implementation lead to understand requirements and define test criteria.
- Coordinate with the development team to ensure timely execution of test plans and resolution of defects.
- Perform various types of testing including functional, regression, integration, performance, and security testing.
- Automate test cases and integrate them into the CI/CD pipeline where applicable. Must be proficient in Microsoft Playwright.
- Track, report, and analyze testing metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in testing.
- Provide leadership in defect management and triage processes.
- Continuously evaluate the test process, proposing improvements and implementing changes as necessary.
- Stay updated on the latest testing tools, methodologies, and trends.
Job Requirements
Education and work experience
- Degree in Computer Science, informatics, business informatics or in a comparable field
- 5 years of experience in QA testing, 2 years in a leadership or management role is a plus.
Technical & Professional Knowledge (mandatory)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of software development life cycles (SDLC) and quality assurance methodologies.
- Proficiency in testing tools such as Microsoft Playwright, Selenium, JMeter.
- Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Technical & Professional Knowledge (additional plus/nice to have skills)
- Familiar with SAP / ERP systems
- Have experience with Agile / Scrum methodologies
