Import Export & Customs Ops Asia Pacific (Senior Executive)
Objectives of the Position
- Drive efficient Import, Export, and Customs operations across the region by improving processes, standardizing workflows, and ensuring compliance with global, regional, and local regulations.
- Lead the hub Import Export & Customs Operations team, ensuring process adherence, operational excellence, and continuous learning and development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Country IE & Customs Ops, Regional Customs & Foreign Trade, Order Management, GBS, Finance, Procurement, and Business Units—to ensure full compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee LLP & LSP daily operations, track vendor performance against KPIs, manage escalations, drive continuous improvement with country teams, and lead improvement efforts to strengthen overall Supply Chain operations.
- Support business units by enhancing service efficiency and implementing improvement initiatives to boost service quality and process effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of service excellence with service providers, focusing on customer-centric Import/Export, Customs & Foreign Trade operations, and strict regulatory compliance.
Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities
Operational Management
- Lead and manage all import/export logistics processes, ensuring compliance with internal procedures.
- Analyze and resolve logistics issues, escalating to relevant teams when needed.
- Maintain issue logs and manage non-conformances with corrective actions.
Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare, verify, and consolidate operational reports and KPIs for management and stakeholders.
- Run regular data extracts and validate accuracy for performance and crisis reporting.
- Support performance analytics and reporting across regions, including vendor management metrics.
Service Provider Management
- Oversee 3PL and LLP service providers for inbound/outbound transportation and customs.
- Conduct audits and random checks to ensure compliance with work instructions.
- Support logistics procurement activities, including tendering and contract adherence.
Continuous Improvement & Projects
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and digitalization efforts in logistics operations.
- Participate in system testing, process enhancements, and assigned projects.
- Coordinate regular meetings and follow-ups on action items across import/export communities.
- Support new business requirements and customer logistics service needs.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Collaborate with business units, regional and global teams to support logistics needs.
• Provide logistics solutions and advisory to business units.
• Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
People Management
• Supervise team, provide constructive feedback and coaching for continuous improvement.
• Facilitate performance appraisals and development plans.
• Identify training needs and support Learning & Development programs required for the organization.
• Develop a comprehensive backup program and succession plan.
Other responsibilities
• All other tasks as assigned relevant to meeting BASF and the objectives as outlined above.
• Assumes back up responsibility for team member/line manager for service provider management and import export operations as required.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (with relevant work experience) in Logistics/Supply Chain Management or related field
Working Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in handling Import/Export logistics with customs and trade compliance background, liaison with logistics service providers. Experience in SAP and chemical industry are preferred.
- A background in team supervision or people management would be a plus.
Technical & Professional Knowledge
- Efficient in MS Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Knowledge in SAP system (TM/ SD/ MM Module) is preferred.
- Proactive team members who takes ownership and shows persistence to achieve results and exceed expectations.
- Ability to work independently on problem solving and identifying solutions.
- Good interpersonal skills and a team player
- Good command of written and spoken English is necessity.
