Objectives of the Position

 

  • Administration and the operationalization of BASF’s Contract of Affreightment (COA) for parcel tanker shipments which includes the management of day-to-day activities, periodical KPI measurements and reviews and driving the optimization of bulk parcel services for BASF and related entities.
  • Leading, managing, and supervising shipbrokers in their daily activities.
  • To perform, execute and consult of all related post fixture activities in handling bulk transportation of BASF group of companies’ products by chemical and product tankers in the Asia Pacific region in a way that is cost efficient and in compliance to all the rules, regulations and standards set by BASF as well as the industry.
  • Maintain close contact and have constant dialogues with all the business units to understand their business, markets, needs and the ever-changing business dynamics to provide each of them with the best shipping arrangements on parcel tankers. This includes providing shipping advice to all business units and assisting them in making decisions regarding bulk business activities and concepts.
  • Working closely with Global Procurement and Business Units in steering and guiding the setup of new business and products.
  • Steering and supporting the harmonization of centralized operations of bulk parcel operations in the HUB with prospective increase on GBPO’s scope and coverage.

 

 

Main Tasks

 

  • Monitor and review performance of ship owners to develop KPIs with the objective of having continuous improvement of the operations.
  • Ensuring that the ship’s movement during her transit and her operational activity at each port is constantly monitored to have the best turnaround of the ship according to the agreed Charter Party/freighting contract.
  • Work closely with all relevant stakeholders covering shipowners, brokers, shippers, receivers, terminals, related BASF entities in ensure seamless bulk parcel shipping operations and where necessary lead the coordination of issue resolution where required. 
  • Conduct presentations in shipping impact workshops or similar trainings on post/fixtures, laytime calculation and other related shipping topics to BASF personnel that are directly or indirectly involved in bulk shipping business to enhance the shipping knowledge in BASF’s community.
  • Ensure that the computation of laytime and potential demurrage is appropriately done to dictate whether there is/potentially is demurrage incurred for each shipment arranged and outcome are to be distributed to all concerned parties for appropriate action.
  • Formulate and implement guidelines, process and procedures, Service Level Agreements, Cost charging and monitoring mechanism for Bulk Parcel Operations services in the region and other regions.
  • Ensure that the processing of all bulk parcel freight invoices and shipowner claims are processed in a timely manner and where necessary actively drive resolutions on this topic.
  • Support the team on any potential BASF’s investment by providing logistics concepts for bulk parcel movements and establish readiness.
  • Ensure adherence to and compliance with all Distribution Safety Codes of bulk cargoes.
  • Working on the seamless inclusion of new business moving into GBPO’s HUB for an optimum service delivery to business units.

 

 

Requirements

 

Education

  • A degree/professional qualification (e.g., ICS/CILT), BS or BA degree in business management, supply chain management or equivalent.

 

Working Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in Parcel tanker operations covering fixture, post fixture and demurrage computation 

 

Technical & Professional Knowledge

  • Possesses excellent communication management skills (written and spoken), analytically inclined and able to work with minimum supervision, proactive, result-oriented and a good team player.
  • Experience in Supply Chain processes as well as ability to report and work with remote managers and teams.
