Objectives of the Position

BASF Shared Services Center Kuala Lumpur was established in 2005 to provide functional services in Finance, Controlling, Information Services, Human Resources, Environment, Health & Safety, Procurement, and Import-Export Order Management to BASF companies in the Asia-Pacific region. The center is part of BASF’s Global Business Services (GB) division, with three other sites in Berlin and Ludwigshafen in Germany and in Montevideo, Uruguay.

 

GB’s Global Technology Unit (GTU) is looking for a Full-Stack Developer with a technical background in building modern IT applications and solutions. The role works closely with GTU’s Global Business Enablement and solutions delivery teams to implement and support IT solutions for other units of the GB division globally.

 

Additionally, it is envisioned for the role to be part of a global Community of Practice to further the awareness and adoption of Citizen Development technologies across the GTU and GB organization in Kuala Lumpur, Berlin and Montevideo.
 

 

Main Tasks

As a Full-Stack Developer in the Global Technology Unit team, your main tasks include:

  • Build responsive, high‑quality front‑end user experiences using modern JS frameworks (component-based UI, state management, performance etc.)
  • Design, develop, and maintain back‑end services and APIs in Python
  • Get involved in database design, data storage integration, and performance tuning
  • Ensure software quality by participating in testing activities (unit tests, SIT, UAT etc.), code reviews, and CI/CD-oriented engineering practices in-line with BASF standards
  • Monitoring and optimization of implemented solutions and the relevant infrastructure environments they run on, to minimize service disruption risks by analyzing metrics related to system/application health
  • Supporting implemented solutions through troubleshooting and rectification
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design documents, runbooks, and support materials
  • Collaborate with technical teams across BASF’s technology landscape within the automation domain
  • Ensure solutions follow BASF technology standards, security policies, and integration guidelines

 

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Information Technology or business-technology related discipline.

 

Working experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in software development as a full-stack developer in a DevOps environment

 

Technical Skills (mandatory):

  • Strong proficiency in modern front-end development using JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (preference for Vue.js)
  • Back-end development experience using Python frameworks (preference for FastAPI)
  • Experience with API development and lifecycle management tools and standards (e.g. Postman, OpenAPI/Swagger)
  • Good understanding of database design and data management principles (PostgreSQL, MongoDB preferred)
  • Hands-on experience working in a DevOps-oriented development environment using collaboration and delivery tools (e.g. Azure DevOps), including tasks like work item tracking, backlog management, code repositories, pull request workflows, and integration with CI/CD pipelines to support agile delivery and team collaboration.
  • Ability to design and execute testing strategies (unit, integration, UAT etc.) to ensure quality and stability of developed solutions
  • Strong understanding of governance and security principles, including access control, environment management, and compliance with enterprise IT standards
  • Practical knowledge of application monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
  • Demonstrated strength in producing and maintaining clear, structured technical documentation (e.g. solution design, process documentation, runbooks) to support maintainability, auditability, and knowledge transfer
  • Working experience in an MNCs setup, with cross-collaboration between multi-disciplinary teams virtually across multiple time zones

 

Technical and Professional Knowledge (nice-to-have)

  • Experience in production-grade Python backend engineering
  • Experience using Python for agent orchestration (Microsoft Agent Framework, LangChain / LangGraph)

  • Digitally-savvy, innovative, highly passionate on new technology offerings, highly perceptive of what’s new in the technology space and its relevance to bring business value
  • Strong analytical skills to steer engineering requirements and can drive high code standards
  • Strong communication & team building skills, combined with an ability to manage and resolve conflict, change management skill in matrixed and virtual teams
  • Enthusiastic, confident, entrepreneurial with sound business judgement within the given broad guidelines
  • Ability to maintain customer-oriented focus even when dealing with technical subject matter
  • Demonstrate a high discipline to complete tasks within project team timelines
  • Appreciation on the importance of connecting tasks to the bigger picture
