GDD/GD - Yard Management - SAP TM Functional Consultant (M/F/D)
Role main activities. What is expected from you?
We are looking for a seasoned SAP Transportation Management (TM) Functional Consultant with deep expertise in S/4HANA TM, a solid understanding of end-to-end supply chain logistics, and proven delivery experience in the chemical industry. The successful candidate will lead the design, configuration, drive cross-functional alignment, act as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams and optimise our Yard Management solutions which have a deep integration with TM. A strong background in SAP R/3 to S/4HANA migration projects is required.
Functional knowledge
• Strong understanding of end-to-end transportation and logistics processes: freight order management, carrier selection, route planning, yard management, and freight settlement, milestone tracking, gate management, and inbound/outbound logistics handoffs.
• Proficiency in freight order lifecycle management, subcontracting, execution monitoring, and event management (milestones, status updates).
• Solid knowledge of SAP modules interfacing with TM: MM (Materials Management), EWM (Extended Warehouse Management), SD (Sales & Distribution), and FI/CO.
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
• Ability to drive and facilitate cross-team technical discussions, aligning stakeholders from TM, EWM, Manufacturing, Core Systems, and business teams towards a common solution design.
• Understanding of multi-ERP integration scenarios
• Familiarity with BASF-relevant logistics processes in the chemical industry: bulk transport, hazardous materials, inbound/outbound logistics
• Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT), functional testing, and hypercare phases post go-live.
• Ability to drive standardisation and reduce non-standard developments by leveraging SAP standard functionalities.
• Apply a global mindset with a strong focus on reusability, standardisation, and harmonisation when designing and developing new solutions – ensuring scalability across BASF’s global landscape.
Technical Knowledge
• Strong understanding of ABAP development, including object-oriented ABAP (OO-ABAP).
• Deep knowledge of API/event-based architecture: Kafka, SAP API Management, SAP Integration Suite (CPI), and event-driven design patterns for real-time logistics data flows
• Familiarity in SAP S/4HANA migration tools and methodologies (SUM, SPDD/SPAU, custom code adaptation, Simplification Item checks).
• Familiarity with SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform)
Relevant Professional experience
Overall, we are looking for an SAP TM Functional Consultant with +4 years of IT industry experience in SAP software implementation with increasing levels of responsibility. We require:
• Proven track record in at least one full-cycle SAP TM implementation or major upgrade project.
• Demonstrated experience in SAP R/3 to S/4HANA migration projects
• Experience working in global, multicultural, and geographically distributed teams, ideally in a shared services or digital hub environment.
• Background in the chemical, manufacturing, or process industry is a strong advantage, with exposure to multi-site logistics models.
• Experience delivering IT solutions in an agile product model, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and DevOps practices.
• Hands-on involvement in system integration projects with third-party logistics providers (3PLs), carriers, or external platforms.
• Proven experience in driving and coordinating System Integration Testing (SIT) across multiple workstreams, including test planning, defect management, and sign-off in complex multi-system landscapes.
• Experience with application lifecycle management, change/release management, and quality assurance processes.
• Experience running IT solutions as products (product ownership mindset) and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Relevant Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university.
• Advanced English skills – written and verbal; additional European languages are a plus.
• Growth mindset with a genuine curiosity to learn, adapt, and improve in a fast-evolving technology landscape.
• Strong team player with excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure on non-routine and highly complex tasks.
• Comfortable working in a multicultural environment across multiple time zones.
