GDE/AC - Senior Automation Engineer (m/f/d)
About the Role
We are hiring a Senior Automation Engineer to help transform how we run and support our SAP application landscape. Your mission is simple but ambitious: eliminate manual work, reduce operational friction, and build smart automation that scales.
You will work hands‑on on automating Application Management Support (AMS) tasks as well as for the SAP operations of our major SAP Landscape (release management, work request handling, authorizations, regression testing, etc) using a modern enterprise technology stack.
SAP (S/4HANA, Cloud ALM, SAP AI/Joule) is a core element—but success in this role depends on your ability to integrate and automate across SAP, Microsoft, ServiceNow, and other automation tools. This role is central to shaping the next generation of autonomous and intelligent support processes, leveraging the latest capabilities in SAP, agentic automation, and other capabilities.
### What You Will Work On
Automate operational processes across:
- Incident, service request, and work intake handling
- Support triage, enrichment, and resolution steps
- Knowledge‑supported troubleshooting and guided resolution
- Reduce repetitive manual effort in AMS and improve speed, stability, and quality.
Release & Testing Automation
- Release coordination and validation
- Deployment and change checks
- Regression testing execution, reporting, and test data handling
- Improve release reliability while reducing operational overhead.
#### Automation Engineering
Design and implement automation using a mixed technology ecosystem:
- SAP (S/4HANA, Cloud ALM, SAP AI/Joule, BTP services where relevant)
- Microsoft (Azure services, Power Automate, Copilot, scripting)
- ServiceNow (workflows, orchestration, integrations)
- Other fit‑for‑purpose automation, orchestration, or testing tools. Work with emerging capabilities such as SAP Joule and Microsoft Copilot without being limited to them.
#### Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with AMS teams, release managers, testers, and architects.
- Design and develop an agent-based automation framework to support Application Management processes for the future SAP S/4 landscape.
- Identify, design, and implement automation use cases across Application Management Support, reducing manual workload and improving service quality.
- Contribute to shared standards, patterns, and reusable building blocks.
- Define standards, reusable components, and best practices for agentic automation.
- Drive continuous improvement and scalability of the automation framework.
- Ensure compliance with corporate IT, security, and data governance guidelines.
### What We Are Looking For
- Strong hands‑on experience in application operations, AMS, or enterprise IT environments
- Strong experience with SAP S/4HANA, especially in Application Management or Support-related processes.
- Hands-on experience with SAP Joule and Joule Studio (designing, building, and maintaining Joule Skills).
- Deep understanding of agentic frameworks, AI-driven workflow automation, or LLM based Assistants.
- Ability to translate functional support needs into scalable automated solutions.
- Solid knowledge of enterprise integrations (APIs, events, orchestration).
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA operations or support tooling (SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite, Cloud ALM, SolMan, SAP testing tools), ServiceNow capabilities for support automation, workflows, orchestration and other tools supporting automation
- Proven experience building automation beyond simple scripting, across workflows or systems.
- Solid understanding of IT service processes (incident, change, release, testing). Understanding of ITIL processes and Application Management methodologies.
- Exposure to AI‑driven automation, copilots, or agent‑based approaches.
- Experience with **test automation or release pipelines in enterprise landscapes.
- Awareness of security, access, and compliance considerations in automation.
