Now hiring! Lab Technician -Chemical plant - Chattanooga

We are seeking individuals like you to join our our team. In this role, you will be responsible for quality assurance testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished latex products for the BASF Corp. Dispersions Plant in Chattanooga, TN. Providing accurate results in our software systems allows BASF to evaluate data which supports the continuous improvement of lab and plant processes to meet and/or exceed customer expectations. 

Working rotating 12-hour shifts – 32 days of dayshift (6AM/7AM to 6PM/7PM)) then switch to 32 days of Night Shifts (6PM/7PM to 6AM/7AM), and supporting overtime as needed.

During your rotating 12-hour shift as a Chemical Lab Technician, you will

  1. Actively supporting and promoting a safe working environment, participating in all safety trainings and programs, and supporting Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security plant initiatives.
  2. Quality assurance testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished latex products within the scope of the BASF Quality Policy and ISO 9001 Quality Management System which includes testing using pH, viscosity, gas chromatography, and other analytical techniques.
  3. Using appropriate software to evaluate data based on internal and external specifications, procedure requirements, and LIMS programming, as well as entering shipping and receiving information into SAP software.
  4. Supporting the continuous improvement of lab and plant processes through QA/QC activities, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance, and meeting/exceeding customer expectations.
  5. Supporting the scheduling, preparation, and loading of product on trucks and railcars in outside weather (physical loading mainly on Night Shifts and Weekends).
  6. Working rotating 12-hour shifts – 32 days of dayshift (6AM/7AM to 6PM/7PM)) then switch to 32 days of Night Shifts (6PM/7PM to 6AM/7AM), and supporting overtime as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2-year associates degree or technical degree in Chemistry/Analytical testing or related field and lab experience OR High School diploma with 2 years of lab experience
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment on a rotating shift
  • Basic understanding of general chemistry, math and statistics 
  • Basic understanding of the techniques of quality assurance and quality control
  • Must be willing and able to work 12 hour rotating shifts -32 days of dayshift 6am/7am to 6pm/7pm and vice versa 
  • Basic computer skills using software packages such as Microsoft Office, Infinity QS Proficient (SPC software), SAP, Lotus Notes, etc.
  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 50 lbs, go up and down stairs/ladders, and be on your feet most of the shift. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of theory, operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation such as gas chromatographs, viscometers, spectrophotometers, pH meters, moisture solids analyzers, etc
  • Basic understanding of ISO/RCMS quality system requirements
  • Experience with emulsion polymerization products
