We are looking for a Seed Science Operations Agronomist to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Saskatoon, SK.

Accountable to the Seed Science Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the execution of field trialing protocols that support various Breeding programs. Located in Saskatoon, this role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and evaluating field trials for the purpose of delivering high quality data, in support of product advancement. This role will be focused on canola (Brassica napus & B. juncea) trialing within the Saskatoon region. In addition, this team member will ensure high standards of compliance are upheld through collaborations with regulatory, stewardship, quality, and safety teams within the organization. 

As a Seed Science Operations Agronomist, you create chemistry by...

  • Managing small plot field trials from planting to harvest.
  • Supporting the management of resources within assigned location, with the goal of achieving all breeding objectives and effective operation of the program.
  • Adhering to stewardship, regulatory, and QMS compliance programs, policies, and procedures. 
  • Participating in the local EHS program to ensure all activities are being performed safely and responsibly.
  • Participating in regional planning and results meetings to establish alignment of protocols & resources, and to ensure trialing results are properly communicated and interpreted.
  • Establishing and maintain industry presence and ensure that BASF is up to date on current industry activities by participating in meetings or tours, as well as establishing contacts with external parties. 

If you have...

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or diploma in agriculture or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in agriculture or related disciplines, will be considered an asset.
  • At least 2 to 5 years of experience in conducting research trials using statistical design and analysis, with expertise in canola agronomy, canola botany, plant breeding, genetics, pollen flow, and genetic purity as valuable assets.
  • Experience in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting tractors, sprayers, planters, plot combines, and other related small plot equipment, is an asset.
  • Experience in loading, unloading, and trailering equipment, is also considered an asset.
  • A G endorsement (Heavy Trailer) or a 1A license, would be beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, along with the ability to be flexible and adapt plans as necessary to minimize the impact on data collection and production as situations arise.
