We are looking for a Senior Occupational Safety Specialist to join our Global Business Services (GB)-Environmental & Safety Services team in Mississauga, ON.

The Global Business Services (GB) is a fully dedicated service division with the sole purpose of providing solutions for BASF’s businesses to grow profitably. As a Senior Occupational Safety Specialist, you will be reporting to the Head of Safety Canada and will be providing technical and regulatory expertise to ensure occupational safety, psychological safety at a corporate level. This includes facilitating the sharing of programs, procedures, tools and successfully demonstrated best practices.  You will be assisting Business Units and sites with implementation of corporate standardized Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures. In addition to this, you will be the Risk Compliance Management System (RCMS) Coordinator for BASF Canada supporting sites with audit readiness for internal RC audit and external RCMS audit. 
 

As a Senior Occupational Safety Specialist, you create chemistry by...

 

  • Participating in monthly OSIH Expert Service calls and communicate Alerts, Advisories and changes to the extended EHS Canada team.
  • Facilitating change by developing and reviewing both internal and external policies.
  • Leading Psychological Health and Safety (PHS) initiatives while also taking on the responsibilities for the Chair of the PHS Committee (PHSC) for BASF Canada.
  • Maintaining the Exposure Reduction Process (ERP) and the principles of Behavior-Based Safety (BBS).
  • Utilizing leading and lagging indicators to identify trends and create initiatives aimed at reducing the frequency and severity of near misses, first aid incidents, injuries, lost time injuries (LTIs), total recordable incident rates (TRIR), and psychological hazards.
  • Participating in capital project reviews, Pre-Start up Safety Review (PSSR) and Management of Change (MOC) meetings upon request
  • Upon request, serving as an Incident Investigator for High Severity incidents and supporting low -moderate severity incident investigations.

 

If you have...

 

  • Post-secondary diploma is required. University degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering or Science discipline or Master’s degree is a plus. 
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience with direct interaction /support of technical aspects of Occupational Safety. 
  • Proven ability to navigate Federal and Provincial Safety Acts.
  • Knowledge and experience of Life Saving Rules,Control of Hazardous Energy, Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA’s), Hierarchy of Controls, etc.
  • Designation such as: CSP, CRSP, CIH, is an asset.
