As a Mechanic Apprentice at our Edgar (McIntyre), GA site, you will make an impact on the world with a fundamental focus on sustainability. As a Mechanic Apprentice, you will be a part of a team which processes kaolin for our sister plants in Savannah and Attapulgus.
 

As your apprenticeship begins, you…

Will enroll in and attend a BASF selected academic program with one of our partner colleges while working and learning on site in our Edgar (McIntyre), GA site from some of the best in the business. During your time here we don’t want you to sweat the small stuff so BASF will cover the entire cost of your educational program, including books! 

When you’re not studying you will have opportunities to…

Work hands-on at our Edgar (McIntyre), GA learning to: 

• Be responsible for repair and maintenance of the Mechanical equipment encompassing the plants process
• Diagnose motor/gear issues, trouble shoot production equipment and resolve them.
• Perform atomizer, pump, bauer mill, blowers, and screw repairs and rebuilds
• Learn the ins and outs of dust collector systems
• Learn the functionalities and adjustment process of horizontal calcines 
• Weld and cut various types of metal and piping
• Work with other team members, engineers, and production personnel to complete job task, breakdowns, or machine redesigns to improve/resolve production needs.
• Support, maintain, and improve the plant MPI programs to maintain equipment reliability.
• Support production operations during the second and third shift as well as weekend coverage.
• Perform mechanical PM’s and maintain records.
• Operate mobile equipment.
• Ensure all maintenance equipment is compliant with MSHA standards. 

If you...

• Have a HS Diploma or GED.
• Can work in a plant environment and lift 50lbs.
• Are able to work days, nights/weekends, holidays and available for call out when needed (after completion of the apprenticeship). 
• Have the willingness to enroll in, attend, and maintain a 2.0 GPA in each course in the BASF selected academic program at one of our partner colleges.

This position is part of the United Steel Workers Union and is covered under the collective bargaining agreement.  All benefits are outlined in this agreement.
